Miko has been a little frustrated with us this week, he wants more walk time and play time in the warmer weather.
But it’s been an intense week at work and my turn to be on call this week. On call weeks are more draining for me even if there’s little to no activity, just knowing I’m taking work home with me and could be interrupted at any time. But I am feeling pretty good about a new protein powder I’m trying in smoothies – Oriya Organics Gather Paleo Plant Protein. It’s certified paleo and vegan because it contains whole plant proteins without fillers, sugars, or artificial flavors. The simple, whole ingredient list is comforting for me and it’s smoother and less earthy that hemp protein powder.
It’s not flavored and won’t make your smoothie taste like a chocolate shake, but it’s fine blended with carrots, frozen banana, spinach, blueberries with cacao powder and stevia for flavoring. So far I’m happy with it and will be experimenting with more recipes I can add clean, plant based protein to such as banana ice cream and dressings.
I do have a new dressing for you! It’s a fun and kicky turmeric dressing that gets a creamy texture and playful sweetness from banana while having a little kick and a lot of health benefits with turmeric, raw garlic and ginger, apple cider vinegar, and miso paste. And a beautiful, summery color.
Turmeric Banana Dressing
- 1 banana, peeled and rough chopped (frozen or fresh)
- 1 tbsp. turmeric
- 2 tbsp. apple cider vinegar
- 1” chunk of fresh ginger
- dash of cayenne (to taste, optional)
- small clove of garlic
- 2 tbsp. tahini
- 1 tbsp. miso paste
- ½ cup water or veggie broth, as needed
Place all ingredients into a high speed blender and blend to a smooth and creamy texture. Serve and enjoy! Makes 4 servings.
Okay, it’s an interesting looking salad because I added sauteed brussels sprouts and purple potatoes to make it a hearty meal salad. But this dressing made it look much more appealing and added a kicky spiced flare which a comforting creamy texture.
The flavor has a daring level of spiced kick with turmeric and raw garlic, but that’s a great thing for making a salad more exciting without oil or sugar. So try it to kick up a summer salad!

Totally fascinated by your banana dressing. I can imagine that would give it a great creamy texture, but I’m so curious about the flavor! Guess I’ll just have to try it.

Haha, yes and it works well. Many turmeric dressing recipes have oil and sugar in them which the banana stands in nicely for.
