Miko is such a sweet and supportive buddy to Leela in her old age. He’s always near her when not in our laps, never complains when she helps herself to his dinner, and never goes after her dinner.
He seems to really know she’s facing challenging times and shows her compassion, animals can be so sweet that way.
So is this dressing, playfully sweet with a kicky Dijon flare and creamy comforting texture. It gets sweetness from raisins, whole fat from avocado, and savory kick from miso paste – no refined sugar or oil because there is nothing comforting about that.
Sweet Dijon Dressing
- 1 avocado, seeded and scooped
- 2 tsp. Dijon mustard
- ¼ cup apple cider vinegar
- ¼ cup raisins (handful)
- 2 cloves raw garlic
- 1 tbsp. miso paste
- 2 tbsp. nutritional yeast
- ½ cup water, as needed for desired thickness
Place all ingredients into a high speed blender and blend to a smooth and creamy texture. Serve and enjoy! Makes 4 servings or so and can also be a dip or spread.
Raisins are a cheaper and fun alternative to medjool dates for a a whole sugar, bulk organic bags are a much more reasonable price and handfuls are also fun adds to smoothies. And they add a great sweet flavor and texture to this hearty dressing.
It’s another super thick dressing which is perfect when it’s packed with healthy ingredients – coat that salad in comforting flavors!
And it paired perfectly with this simple spinach and chickpea salad.

I’m so glad Miko is so great with Leela thru all of this! With Paco’s ongoing issues we never know from one day to the next what a day will bring. I’ve noticed Riley and Cricket chumming up with Paco sometimes, too! Then with Riley being 17-ish now…he’s getting up there, too! And Charlie the Feral Cat…well…he’s at least 18 and sleeping a lot these days. It’s been a nervous week in our house but I think things are evening out finally. Charlie and Paco weren’t really themselves but they didn’t really have any symptoms to speak of, either. They seem to be back to themselves now so that’s good.
The dressing looks great! I think I am going to have to make that one, soon!

So glad things are better at your house, it’s so stressing to see them struggle with health challenges.
Thanks on the dressing.:-)

Oh my gosh, the picture of sweet little Miko and Leela made me tear up a bit. You’re right, animals are so smart and intuitive, how fortunate that they have one another.
The dressing sounds and looks delicious. I love that you used raisins to sweeten it.

So true and thanks on the dressing, the raisins add a better texture and fun flavor to the Dijon.
