Miko has been a little blue the last few days, he got used to us spending more time with him for the holidays and not happy about us getting back the grind.
He is so eager to play when we’re home shoving his new toy in our faces while we’re trying to watch TV. Can’t blame him, I’m still adjusting to the holidays being over and the gym being super crowded now. It’s great that so many people are trying adopt healthier habits for the new year and I’m trying to as well for 2018. Some goals include phasing processed protein powders out and getting back to snacking on more whole fruits and veggies. And continue making monster meal salads for dinners and lunches, ones that satisfy with great ingredients. I’m starting 2018 off with a simple, but feisty dressing recipe. One that most people probably have ingredients on hand for and will go perfect with just about any fresh ingredients you have to make a salad.
Feisty Good Dressing
- ¼ cup tahini
- juice of 1 lemon
- 1 tbsp. apple cider vinegar
- 1 clove of garlic
- 1 tsp. Dijon mustard
- 1 tsp. miso paste
- 1-2 tsp of favorite hot sauce
- ¼ cup water, as needed
Place all ingredients into a high speed blender and blend to a smooth and creamy texture. Serve and enjoy! Makes 4 servings.
So many dressing recipes pack oil and sugar which sucks, especially when you’re taking to time to make a healthier recipe from scratch. This one uses whole fats from tahini, gets a happy kick from raw garlic and hot sauce, and a healthy boost from miso paste and apple cider vinegar. But the creamy texture and kicky flavors do not disappoint.
For my interesting meal salad, I used chopped cabbage, raw corn, carrots, fresh parsley that needed to be used up, and chopped leftover baked falafel from Trader Joe’s – not bad and very colorful.
The smooth texture worked with the crunchier cabbage and the spicy garlic brought it to life.
Get a healthy start to 2018 with this dressing!

Aw, poor Miko. I’m assuming he didn’t get to try any if this fabulous dressing either, so I don’t blame him from feeling down!

Haha, not – no garlic for him. :-)

True that. Still, I’m sure he doesn’t understand that you’re withholding for his own good! <3

This dressing is so up hubby’s alley. He’s always trying to get me to include hot sauce in recipes. The apple cider vinegar being a huge plus for him too! He doens’t cook, but does make dressings so I’ll email him this link =)

Nice, hope he likes it and he can mix up what hot sauce he uses in it. :-)

Our dogs are with me every day, and they are acting just like Miko. It’s been in the single digits in Chicago with negative wind chills, so they haven’t had a walk for weeks. Boredom is real!
That dressing sounds fabulous!

Ugh, that is too cold for dog walks – poor pups! Hope it gets warmer soon! Thanks on the dressing!

Ooooooh, how lovely! I made an accidental dressing with something similar (was going for a veggie dip, but made it too watery… voila salad dressing!) love to see you post these inspiring recipes with real ingredients! <3 – http://www.domesticgeekgirl.com
