Wow, Sunday is here already! Miko has been all about relaxing this weekend chilling in the office with me.
And getting very comfy with us on the couch watching the Olympics.
Not so much for Leela, it’s been a rocky weekend for her again – last Saturday I had to remove a nasty tick and this Saturday she had a tummy ache and threw up a few times while being very lethargic. I kept a close eye on her to make sure she was not in pain and let her relax in a clean bed most of the day.
Miko stayed near her too being a sweet little support guy.
Thankfully she’s doing much better today, eating and drinking a lot and enjoyed a long walk.
Not sure what she got into, but Miko hasn’t shown any signs yet.
Friday night hubby and I had a dinner misadventure. He heard there was a new place in the mall that served healthy sandwiches and had a lot of vegan options and thought we should check it out. I looked it up on Yelp, found great reviews and was looking forward to it. Well, we got to the mall and couldn’t find it in the food court and it wasn’t listed on the directory. Hmmm, okay – too new of a place? We walked around and eventually found a map on our phones of were it was and found a fitness clothing shop there instead. What? Turns out the Yelp reviews were from last year and it already closed – whoops! Yeah, I rarely go to the mall anymore and had to giggle at how many people were walking around playing Pokemon Go. We ended up getting vegan salads at Pluto’s Restaurant instead with a side of fries.
It’s been awhile since I’ve been there too even though it’s a good place for vegan options and the server was very familiar with what items were vegan friendly and which aren’t. Sadly, the bread they usually serve with the salads is not vegan friendly and they have no vegan sandwich options, so a custom salad is basically the only option and ordering it is a long process that required patience. The line was long and there is such a thing as giving customers too many choices, so many some can’t figure out what they want in a timely matter!
We went home and tried making our own kombucha cocktails with Bacardi.
Not bad, but they were better at Garden to Grill so we need to keep perfecting.
I also tried another new alternative milk scored from Grocery Outlet – Good Karma Unsweetened Flaxmilk.
For only having 25 calories per serving – it’s tasty and creamy and does not have an earthy aftertaste. Creamy and rich enough for coffee and I like that it’s fortified with B12 as well as calcium. Thumbs up, will buy again!
I am still on a salad kick with beans thanks to the hot weather, this pinto bean and greens salad was delicious with Hampton Creek’s Just Caesar dressing.
Yesterday we had a last minute family taco party get together at my sister’s house which was a lot of fun hanging out and catching up. And I made a monster taco salad with beans, spicy salsa, black olives, avocado, and Daiya Vegan Cheddar Shreds.
Very satisfying!
And this morning I met my sister at 8 AM for a hilly trail run. I tapered a bit at 6 miles and was slower because there was some serious hill training and terrain training, but it was perfect before the heat kicked in and I’m feeling pretty good after logging 5 runs this week.
It’s been a good weekend of family and fun!

I rarely go to the mall either and I had a similar experience at one point. Looked all over for a place and it ended up being closed. T_T Maybe malls aren’t were vegans go?

I think so, I just was not feeling the shopping mood. But the people watching was kind of fun I guess. :-)

I read that article from Dr. Gregor. I finally signed up for his email list and enjoy getting my articles every week :-)

Poor Leela! I hope she’s better. It’s so scary when our fur babies get sick. Ugh, I hate ticks! We took our pups to the forest preserve and even though we kept them on the paths I found ticks on both of them when we got home. Thankfully they hadn’t embedded themselves.
Love the idea of that flax milk, I need to look for it.

She is much better thankfully! Agreed on ticks and they’ve been really bad this year!
I really like Flaxmilk, think it’s gonna be my new go to.

I’m glad Leela is feeling better! It’s so tough when the pups are sick b/c they can’t tell us exactly what’s wrong and it can be really stressful.
I love that flaxmilk! I’ve been switching up my milks each week and get the flax one at least once a month.

Thanks and so true, we can’t just ask them what’s wrong. I just tried to confirm she had no sore areas.
Nice on the Flaxmilk, I will be regularly buying it now too.
