Weekend List

November 22, 2015 by christine

Happy relaxing Sunday, I hope it’s been a good weekend so far and it’s not too hectic with Thanksgiving planning. I’m planning a trip to Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s later today and not entirely looking forward to the crowds, but I’ll still have fun because how can shopping at Whole Foods not be fun? We’re supposed to get more rain and freezing temps for Thanksgiving which is okay with me, we’ll just keep the fireplace on and have a casual day at our house with my parents. We got more storms last weekend too, I shot this pic walking the dogs just before the wind started really picking up and we had to head back home.

The dogs have been a little clingy this week with the cooler weather even sharing a chair at the dinner table while begging for carrot and broccoli chunks.

Sadly I didn’t get too many pics of my eats this week because it’s been a little busy, but I did snap this fun spaghetti squash dish – I just sauteed steamed spaghetti squash with chickpeas, marinara sauce, and green beans for a fun, healthier version of spaghetti.

Friday my sister and I took a vacation day from work for an all day shopping adventure, it’s kind of become an annual tradition of ours to get a jump on Christmas shopping and help each other find tougher gifts before the mall becomes too insanely crowded. We stopped at Whole Foods for a snack and I grabbed a Gingerade GT’s Kombucha.

Yum. And Simply Sprouted Way Better Snacks Ginger Tortilla Chips.

Guess I was in a ginger mood. But the chips were good, an interesting mix of slightly sweet ginger and cinnamon with savory crunchy tortilla chips. They’re vegan and gluten free.

I also scored big time for myself at a Lucy shop. I hate wearing phone arm bands for working out – hate them. They never stay put on my arm, the phone is not easily accessible in them for snapping pics, and it’s just one more thing you have to put on and adjust before a run. No thanks. So I only buy fitness bottoms with phone pockets and my absolute favorite for running are Lucy Pocket Capri Leggings. They have huge phone pockets on either side with a great level of compression from the thicker, supportive fabric. I wore them for the Beat the Blerch 10k last weekend and had my personal phone in one pocket and my on call work phone in the other – no problem, neither phone shifted at all during the race and no waist pack required!

And that pair is nearly 2 years old, have been worn for 3 half marathons and tons of long training runs and washed many times – still going strong! Those were $79 and easily worth it for the use I’ve gotten from them so far. But Lucy has a couple of colors on sale for $59 with an additional 30% off this weekend – that’s a great deal! They had two in my size so I bought them both. And you should buy them too if you’re looking for great running capris!

After a day of shopping, we had dinner at Pho Vegan Asian Cuisine, a great place I’ve been meaning to make it to more! The prices are great with a fun mix of menu items.

I got the lemongrass soy “chicken” dish and loved the fragrant and bright lemongrass flavor and sampled the other dishes too, of course. I’m grateful to have another great and local vegan restaurant here and that there are so many bright veggies in their dishes.

Anyway, to the list!

Dr. Will Tuttle, author of The World Peace Diet, takes a deep look at eating meat.

James Cameron is getting serious about global warming and animal agriculture.

There are celebrities on this list that even I didn’t know about.

Antibiotic use in factory pig farms could pass a scary antibiotic resistant bacteria to humans who eat them.

Another athlete finding success on a vegan diet.

This acorn squash recipe would be beautiful on the Thanksgiving table.

And this creamy kabocha squash butter looks pretty fantastic too.

And more Thanksgiving recipe inspiration and even more here.

Gotta run because it’s Sunday Runday!

I know! I try to get a headstart on Christmas shopping too before the mall gets insane. Grocery shopping is something I struggle with. I would go to Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods more if it weren’t so crowded!

Agreed, our local mall is a complete nightmare around the holidays, we even avoid the roads around it! And ugh on the grocery crowds, at least Whole Foods seems to be less crowded with holiday shopping.

I love those pants! I also hate the arm bands and tend to stick my phone/ipod in my bra. Never a good thing (I’ve water logged a few!).
Sounds like you’ll have a nice and pretty relaxing Thanksgiving. Ours will be just hubby the kids and I, but I agreed to allow the kids to have people over on Friday for “leftovers and movies”. Somehow that turned into about 15 kids ages 12-19. Should be interesting….

Oh, I’m curious about those gingersnap tortilla chips! I’ve never seen them at the store nor imagined such a concept before, but I don’t see why it couldn’t work. Pair them with some pumpkin hummus and I’m in seasonal snacking heaven!

I can’t wear the armbands when I work out either. They chaffe and slip around. Not good! Great links and pictures of your little fur babies. They make me smile.
    Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

So true on armbands, I can never get them tight enough to stay put. Thanks and you too!

My pups are obsessed with broccoli. They’ve been turning their noses up at carrots lately but will eat broccoli all day every day. I keep trying to switch things up for them.

I hear you about Whole Foods. It could be absolutely mobbed in there but I still love it. I went Saturday and they had so many fun things for Thanksgiving.

That Pho vegan place looks delicious!

Funny, it took Leela awhile to warm up to carrots after watching Miko scarf them down so many times.

Whole Foods lived up to it’s nick name for me Sunday, I had too much fun finding new goodies for Thanksgiving. :-)
