TGIF! Nice to put this long week behind and move into a little fun and relax time. Since it was another cold and foggy day, we opted for a relaxing evening at home where Leela took her place in front of the fireplace to park all night.
And Smokey played her favorite game of carrying around dirty sweat socks while meowing like she’s caught a prize. I’m so good about putting my socks in the hamper, yet somehow she gets them while we’re at work and leaves them all over the house. One of these days I’ll set up a nanny cam.
While I was at Whole Foods awhile back, I impulsed purchased Health is Wealth’s Chicken Free vegan patties from the frozen foods section because they looked good for a busy fast dinner and had an ingredient list I could live with. Well I forgot they were there, but non-vegan hubby has already eaten 3 of the 4 patties. He says they’re a decent chicken alternative that add a nice crunch to his wraps which makes them pretty impressive to me already. Tonight I snatched the last patty to try for dinner.
For 110 calories, they’re a big patty and 12 grams of protein isn’t too shabby.
They’re super easy to heat up on the stove top from frozen requiring just a couple of minutes on each side in a little oil depending how crispy you want them.
I decided to try mine chopped on a salad dressed with Gena’s Carrot Miso Dressing.
Turns out the patty goes really well with the dressing adding a nice crunch while absorbing the tangy sesame flavors of the dressing. I couldn’t tell you if they’re exactly like chicken, but I can say they’re very tasty with a chewy warm inside and a satisfying crunchy exterior. They do look a lot like a breaded chicken patty.
I probably will buy these again just on the fact that my hubby liked them so much and I liked it as a fun salad alternative.

I’m not big on meat alternatives but I’ll have to check these out! The soy protein in a lot of them is pretty rough on my stomach, but some have better ingredients than others. Thanks for sharing!

Ok so back in the day, I used to love love love morningstar farms brand ‘chicken’ nuggets. I would nuke them and the crunchy outside and warm inside was PERFECT for putting on top of salads and would go great w/ dressing. havent had any in years but now…i kinda want some :)
Dont you love it when the nonvegan hubby eats all the (pricey!) vegan food…or i will make some GF dessert that takes me awhile and scott will go to town on it…umm, hello, you can have anything! leave me and my time consuming GF dessert alone…haha!
:)

You should try these patties, better ingredient list than Morning Star and they weren’t too pricey as I recall.
Heh, true but I’d rather hubby eat healthier vegan alternatives and am happy when I find some he likes. :-P

That sounds awesome! I’ve never had those, but would be into it. I have been known to put veg burgers on my salad, but I haven’t done it in a long time…

The patty was really good on salad and crispier than a Sunshine Burger which I like to crumble on salads too.

oh man, i need to get to WF for those patties! i like the morningstar ones but they don’t have as much protein! it certainly looks tasty on top of that salad w/ the dressing!
