I have a love/hate relationship with my current gym that prompts me to look at other options occasionally. Sure, it’s only $10 a month and they have a plentiful number of treadmills. But it also has crowded and chaotic seasons which we’re in now – everyone wants to look good for summer I guess! There is a new 24-hour small gym in running distance from my house I checked out today, a much smaller gym with newer equipment and is cleaner. But the 4x monthly costs and limited number of treadmills renewed my appreciation of my cheap gym, I guess I can deal with crowds and limited floor space as long as treadmills are available!
We’re still chugging along with Dasher this week taking him for lots of walks and trying avoid drama when he and Miko compete for attention. He likes to stop at every shady spot to rest on walks which makes them much longer for us.
He also likes to hang out under tables and watch us and wait for food handouts. We had a bit of drama Sunday night when Miko became restless and could not sit or get comfortable. I carefully watched and googled his behavior, stretching constantly and refusing to sit still, and figured either he hurt his back again, was having a gland issue, or possibly a blockage. After a crappy night of sleep, hubby took him to the vet Monday and he hurt his back again. Probably playing too hard with Dasher. He got a pain shot and is on pain medication twice a day now. Ugh, is it Friday yet?
Dasher actually wanted carrots from my lentil stew the other night.
I had to draw the line at sharing spicy tofu eggplant takeout from Pho Vegan Asian Cuisine hubby sweetly picked up after the vet trip. But I did share cabbage and more carrots from a tofu oil-free stir fry, I think Dasher is beginning to like veggies and healthier foods!
I think you’ll like this healthier tahini basil pesto dressing. A lot of pesto dressings are loaded with oil which is awful. This one uses tahini, is packed with raw garlic, and gets savory flavors from miso paste instead of salt.
Tahini Basil Dressing
- 1 cup packed basil leaves
- ¼ cup tahini
- 1 tbsp. miso paste
- 2 cloves garlic
- 2 tbsp. apple cider vinegar
- ½ cup water or veggie broth as needed
Place all ingredients into a high speed blender and blend to a smooth and creamy texture. Serve and enjoy. Makes 4 servings.
Tahini adds a tangy zing to traditional pesto for a pleasant surprise and plenty of creaminess without added oil.
It makes a great summer dressing with strong and lively flavors.

Sounds like tahini pesto to me! Perfect timing since I bought way too much basil at the farmers market. This will do the trick. :)

Haha, yes in dressing format and it’s perfect for using up basil! :-)
