It’s Friday Eve and that’s all right with me, especially in front of a 3 day weekend. It’s been a busy week and I’ve been in my usual rut of a smoothie for breakfast and packed salad for lunch.
With a splurge lunch run to Baagan for a huge kale citrus salad with hubby today.
Their kale salads, quesadillas, and paninis are amazingly good and so convenient on a busy work day while being cheaper than what I usually spend at the Whole Foods salad bar.
Tonight I was craving something a little heartier for dinner and decided to try the Lentil Sage Field Roast vegan grain “meat” I grabbed at Whole Foods.
I’m becoming less interested in vegan fake meats, but the sale price and large protein content attracted me to this product – 31 grams of protein per serving!
It has nearly triple the protein amount of turkey sausage hubby had in the fridge, impressive! It’s very thick and dense with visible grains and veggies in the loaf.
And had Miko begging to try a sample.
Since I just received a fresh bunch of chard in our farm box, I was craving a stir fry.
I chopped up the Field Roast loaf into chunks and stir fried with chopped chard, broccoli, and leeks seasoned with Trader Joe’s Everyday Seasoning and a splash of balsamic vinegar for a super fast dinner.
The Field Roast has a thick and chewy texture that was very filling. The mild sage flavor was nice and not too salty as some fake meats can be.
It wasn’t spicy or overly seasoned for a kid-friendly meat alternative and a being a versatile protein to add to many recipes. Something I would buy again and continue to try their other flavors.

I love chard– so pretty!
Good for you for still getting salads in. I’m doing smoothies at breakfast, but salads for lunch have just seemed too COLD for me lately.

True on salads, it’s tricky staying raw on chilly evenings here when all I want is hot soup.
