TGIF! I’m so glad the weekend is here and ready for some relaxing. Today I sort of grazed through the day for food breaking lunch into snacks because I wanted to knock out a Target shopping trip. So I went to work with a purse full of goodies that included fruit, a Sun Warrior protein smoothie and a Pure bar. Yes, there’s two cell phones in there – the joy of being on call. And I pretty much always have fruit in my purse and piled on my desk at work.
Around 11 AM, I was ready for lunch #1 that included the Pure Organic Chocolate Brownie bar.
I selected it at Trader Joe’s because it’s raw vegan and had less calories than a Larabar and looked even more like a dessert bar.
Well, it isn’t much bigger than a fig bar – no wonder it had less calories! And it disappeared fast, too fast since I was hungry. The texture was very much like a raw chocolate brownie, cake or dough ball – ground nuts and dates. It was good and had a nice, chocolaty flavor – but nothing too exciting.
Though the bar was small, it did satisfy me for awhile, so this wouldn’t be a bad choice if you need to quick and satisfying snack.
I got into a bit of trouble in the clothing clearance section at Target, 50 and 75% off signs were just too tempting and the spring-like weather today had me craving lighter clothes. So I scored a cute dress, cami top and a light sweater for about $20, not bad.
And these cute vegan flats on sale since my old ones were barely wearable.
Neither hubby or I were in the mood to cook dinner, so we stepped out to a local Thai place for dinner where I tried a new tofu curry dish that was wonderful. The curry coconut sauce was perfect and the tofu firm and cooked to a nice texture to absorb the flavors. Thai seems to be a go to place for us since there always seems to be great vegan options for me.
When we got home, we were feeling pretty tired from the week and plunked down in front of the TV with a lap buddy to watch a Trailer Park Boys movie.
If you’ve never seen the Trailer Park Boys TV show, I highly recommend it even though it’s a guilty pleasure. Hubby and I discovered the show a few years ago and have been keeping up with it and the movies that have been spun off since. It’s a wild ride following a trailer park community and all the craziness like a reality show and your can rent or buy the seasons on DVD now.
“cute dress, cami top and a light sweater for about $20, not bad.”–INDEED! love it! and i love the shades of gray/silver. So pretty!
The pure bars. They are a joke in terms of size. It’s like 3 bites and gone. And try splitting one with a hungry kid. Even less for me :) The taste..yes, if you have the time, you can make these in 2 secs at home. I have a dark choc fudgeball recipe that i think is as good, if not better, than the Pures and Laras but i wont toot my own horn. lol
You having lots of pets..back in the day, Scott and i practically had a small farm we had so many cats and dogs!
True on the Pure bars, I’d rather just make more raw dough balls in my food processor then buy more of these.
Too cute on your pets, do you have any now?
Love your clothing scores! I always get in trouble at Target!
Me too, Target clearance is addicting!
I really like the purebars especially chocolate and blueberry. yup they are small but for me that’s a bonus to help with self-control, which I have very little of with treats. :-)
cute kitty! I love the grey ones..ok i love them all.
I’ve never had a Pure bar—they look pretty good, but I try not to buy those things…and make them instead! …but I don’t usually do that either, so I guess there is a big plus to spending a little more for the convenience!
Awww, love your lap buddy :) So adorable!
Love your blog and food posts.I have to admit I love the Pure bars but they are expensive and kinda small for the price. I love Vegan Thai and we eat thai often since they usually have vegan options on the menu, however I learned recently that most thai restaurants use fish sauce in alot of vegan and vegetarian menu items !?! (if it isnt specifically a vegan restaurant ) How does fish sauce qualify as vegan or even vegetarian? Luckily I always ask before ordering but I thought it was an interesting piece of information to pass along. If you’re like me you would be furious if fish sauce was in your “vegan dishes”
Hi and thanks! :-) Very true on Thai food and thanks for the reminder about fish sauce. It’s something that I do check too and it’s a gamble if they’re telling the truth for places not all vegan and infuriating.
