Beer & Getting Screamed At

February 11, 2011 by christine

Happy Friday! What a long week it’s been! I even set my coffee maker to go off minutes after my alarm this morning and the sound grinding beans and fresh coffee smell was almost not enough to motivate me out of bed. I’m not the only one feeling tired, lots of co-workers are complaining and hubby was dragging a bit too, maybe there’s something going around.  And it’s been a wacky week. Normally I never need safety pins at work, but keep them on hand in case emergency clothing repairs are needed. This week I needed two, one when a strap on my pricey Clarks work shoes broke and another today when a seem on a pair of jeans started splitting. What’s up with clothing quality lately? Guess I need to go clothes shopping soon!

Even though the safety pin was holding, I still went home for lunch to change jeans and had a quick lunch of salad leftovers and pineapple chunks before having to dash back to work.

Luckily the rest of the work day was pretty uneventful and I was perfectly content to plop on the couch with the new Cosmo after work while waiting for hubby to get home. And annoy my cat with my camera.

While Leela pouted about the fireplace not being on to warm her bed.

When he did get home, we both vegged on the couch for about 30 minutes before finally deciding on sushi for dinner, well veggie tempura for me, and headed to our favorite local sushi place. Japanese food just isn’t the same without my favorite beer currently, Asahi. And it’s vegan friendly. All beers should be, but I quickly learned surfing Barnivore that they’re not. Bummer. Sorry for the crappy low-light point-and-shoot pics!

And my favorite appetizer, edamame. This time it was sprinkled with a little salt and that did wonders for the flavor.

Then miso soup – perfect in chilly weather.

Finally the main entree, veggie tempura in all it’s fried glory. Definitely a splurge food! And I can’t eat all of this because the fried shell is too rich and I usually end up picking off half of it.

Yum, this batch had two pieces of kabocha squash, my lucky night!

Another great evening. But we arrived for a late dinner and got seated next to a couple with 3 tired and cranky young kids who cried, err, screamed, most of the night. I almost wanted to politely remind the parents the restaurant does takeout, but oh well. Now we’re vegging again in front of the TV, another exciting Friday. :-)

How’s your Friday been?

Oh that sucks that parents brought screaming cranky kids out. As a mom, i dont do this b/c 1. why would i spend my own good money/time to take a cranky kid out? I can stay home and do it for free :) And 2. it totally disrupts the peace of ppl like you who ARE also paying good money/time to be out and enjoy yourself. That sucks!

Your low lighting pictures..there is something super artsy about them that i am digging!

Agreed, it wasn’t a cheap restaurant and they could have been having a relaxing dinner at home after the kids went to bed – so why pay a premium to dine out with unhappy kids?

Hehe, thanks on the pictures, I was playing around with editing them in Paint.NET to up the lighting and clarity.

Nice that you work close to home to change your clothes!

I love veggie tempura, too. Haven’t had it in awhile.

My husband and I are child-free and as we get older our tolerance level for loud children has diminished greatly. I’m always surprised by parents who, obviously used to the volume of their children don’t notice it, do nothing and do not seem to care that it bothers other people. We try to go to places less child-friendly to avoid the frustration.

I think a lot of people are walking around tired these days with the winter blues. Doesn’t matter where you live in the U.S. right now, seems like we’re all getting some fairly crappy weather!

Work is about a 15 minute drive from home, just close enough to run home if I need to. :-)

I think I got my hubby addicted to veggie tempura too, a once-in-awhile splurge for us.

We’re child-free too which makes it easy to tolerate occasional instances like that knowing we can go home to a peaceful house. I just don’t understand why parents would want to pay a premium to dine out when it’s a miserable experience for everyone.

Man…I hate having meals ruined by screaming kids. It sounds kind of mean to say that, but I DO!

LOL…your cat picture is cracking me up. That is one pissed off dude (dudette?).
