Sugar Detox

January 26, 2011 by christine

Today has been an oddly foggy and wet day, it was an eerie drive to work this morning. Of course it’s also another opportunity to play with the telephoto lens.

Even though it wasn’t that cold, it feels bone-chilling with so much moisture in the air. It’s like an X-files episode here, hope not a monster one. I already had to evacuate one monster from our fridge this morning.

I’ve been eating mocha chocolate cake from Saturday’s party for the last 3 days and I’m sugared out!  I can’t take it anymore, I think I’m starting to have sugar-induced nightmares. So I sent hubby to work with what’s left and his co-workers were thrilled. I think these five slices disappeared in record time. And now I need a serious sugar detox. With so many sprouts and veggies still in my fridge, a big salad for dinner just seemed perfect. I also had a container of sauerkraut to use up to make room in my fridge for this monster very soon, which has been bubbling and fermenting away since Saturday.

I love sprouts coated in avocado ginger dressing, it coats then with flavor while making them seem like gooey, sauce-coated noodles which called to me for dinner. As usual, my salad started overflowing the bowl as I threw in what felt good.

But the heavy dressing took care of that.

After a thorough toss, monster dinner salad was ready and perfect topped with dulse flakes.

The perfect start to my mini detox and I will be avoiding raw desserts and sweets for a bit now!

Your tweet caught my eye as I feel sugared out and have been avoiding sweet stuff for the most part too. Solidarity!

Agreed, I’ve been noticing more mood swings and stress this week I think thanks to too many sweets. Definitely need to cut back! :-)

I am never sugar’ed out as long as i am eating enough greens/veggies to balance it and it’s like a crime that you sent that cake off to coworkers (b/c I want it!!) but im sure they enjoyed it. lucky devils! :)

    your dressing looks perfect!

    and your telephoto lens pics..nice!

This cake is so rich it might even get to you after a few days of it! :-P I always have tons of veggies, but it wasn’t enough to counter it I think.

That salad looks gorgeous and delicious!

I hear you on the sugar. That’s one of the reasons I do my winter cleanse — I don’t have a serious sweet tooth but somehow i convince myself that I do during the holiday season ;) Nothing better than hearty veggies, grains and beans for a couple of weeks to fill me up on what I love and is overall better for me!

That salad looks gorgeous! I love the combination in it.
I can totally relate on the sugar overload…when it happens to me, I have to get control, detox a little and then….it’s amazing how much better I feel.
But it still happens now and then, especially when there’s yummy looking desserts like you had around!

That’s exactly what happened to me, my sweet cravings and mood seemed to be all over the place, so time to throttle back the treats. :-)

It’s a great dressing and so simple in the Vita-Mix, you should totally try it.

The cake actually wouldn’t be a bad breakfast since it’s loaded with coffee too, just top with fresh fruit. :-P
