Whew, I actually did accomplish a lot Saturday! I did my usual workout breaking in my new shoes and they feel great, I’m thrilled. I then met my sister, very active 3-year-old nephew and mom at Whole Foods for lunch.
Whole Foods turned out to be a great place to meet her because my nephew had a blast playing in the kiddie grocery section of the eating area while we caught up. My sister has never tried Kombucha before and her face was priceless after she took her first sip and exclaimed she was not expecting that! But, it grew on her after a few sips and hers disappeared as quickly as mine did.
She does not have a Whole Foods near her and is not that familiar with the store, so after I got to show her around, explain the products I buy like hemp seeds, hemp protein powder, nutritional yeast, etc. She even bought a couple raw snack bars and treats I recommended. She’s still very new to raw and insanely busy with a work and parenting schedule and a very traditional husband when it comes to food, she has not had much time or energy to try new recipes. I did get her into making smoothies for her and her son when I gave her my old blender, so there has been progress. :-) Also, our Whole Foods is having a raw kid recipe class next weekend that I’m trying to get both of my sisters to go to and make it a fun girls day of shopping, a great opportunity to learn more healthy snacks and recipes for their kids.
When I got home, I was feeling pretty wired even after working out and chasing a 3-year-old all over Whole Foods – maybe it was the Kombucha. :-) So I set out on a bunch of little errands I needed to run starting with selling jewelry that I’ve not worn in years and didn’t mean much to me – I took it to a local shop that buys it and walked away with a couple hundred dollars in cash … probably more than what was originally paid for it – nice! Then I took all the change hubby has been collecting at his night stand to a local Coinstar and walked away with a $55 gift certificate to Amazon, that will be nice for more groceries! Then I ran to a local auto parts store and found the perfect replacement rubber cover for my clutch pedal for $5 – one less thing to worry about!
When I got home, I started working on my chocolate cake recipe which I’m really excited about. Not quite ready for posting yet, I need to get more opinions and maybe another trial run, but here’s a sneak peak.
It uses a lot of almond pulp and has the texture of a super dense brownie. :-) I’ll be taking some to my mom today for her opinion.
For dinner last night, I went with a big salad to save room for cake. Funny that I never get tired of salads with the huge variety of dressings and ingredient options to make them a new adventure each time.
This was was red peppers, carrot ribbons, cilantro, broccoli and alfalfa sprouts, tomatoes and celery with a guacamole dressing I made my throwing lime juice, pink salt, celery, avocado, jalapeno, tomato and cilantro into the Vita-Mix – very good and it make a great, light-whipped guacamole that hubby enjoyed with tortilla chips also. Typically guacamole is very dense and heavy, breaking the chip I’m trying to scoop some up with, but whipping it in the Vita-Mix with celery made it light and fluffier for easy chip scooping and reduced the calories, it didn’t seems to lose any of the amazing avocado flavor though. A great, productive day!
