I am feeling better this week, still having a bumpy recovery, but trying to be positive while patiently riding out the blanking period and looking for signs things are improving. Plus there have been a lot of great eats for the Sacramento Vegan Chef Challenge. And we really started feeling the fall weather this week with a bit of rain and chilly temps. Ron made an excellent vegan chili one evening and I have been on a hearty soup kick making big batches for dinner and leftovers for work lunches. There was a creamy turmeric noodle soup with veggies and vegan sausage. And a lentil-loaded veggie noodle soup. Also a simple tofu stir fry with air fried Brussels sprouts.
Friday we went to Matteo’s Pizza & Bistro for their vegan chef challenge menu and started with the Blistered Corn Soup.
The sweet and slightly charred corn flavor was exquisite with citrus and smoky flavors. Then the Vegan Mexican Pizza and Mushroom Po Boy, both amazing, but the pizza really stood out with a satisfying kick.
Last night it was Veg Sacramento for their vegan chef challenge menu where we shared one of everything. I started with the Toad cocktail, gin, basil, mint, lime, and herb oil for a unique and refreshing blend.
The Sweet Potato Pavé was a delicate and deliciously unique texture experience, we fought over who could clean the plate with the divine mushroom cream sauce. The Root Ravioli was also a delicious experience celebrating a blend of root vegetables with a fun twist on a comfort classic.
The Rosemary Gnocchi was also a pleasant surprise with a tangy and savory rosemary sauce and perfect texture. Of course the Pumpkin Crème Brûlée was amazing.
Today I headed to the Vegan Street Faire in Old Town Sacramento to check out food vendors and enjoy the perfect weather.
I arrived at about 1:30pm for a late lunch, but so many of the food vendors were already sold out, which is awesome to me. Thankfully Vegan Circus was still serving their hearty vegan bacon burger that paired great with Burly’s Beverages Super Spicy Ginger Beer.
Boo on the great weekend being over and just wow that is Halloween is 2 days away! Hoping for a better week ahead for everyone starting with the list.

Wow! A vegan street fair! I’ve never seen anything around here like that. That must have been a treat! I too am into soups and the creamy turmeric noodle soup with veggies and vegan sausage sounds like something I’d be interested in trying. Glad you are feeling somewhat better. Speedy recovery.

And the Vegan Street Fair was packed which was great. Hopefully the event will come back next year. Soups are my comfort go to for winter, like a winter salad. :-) Thanks on the recovery, hopefully making progress.
