Happy Labor Day weekend! This time last year we were having a great rafting trip in Tahoe and I wish we could be there this year. But 2020 is a special mess, the few fun options for getting out this weekend are overly packed and it’s smokey thanks to more new fires and more triple digit heat. So we’re sheltering inside and thankful for AC. Miko has been a sweet cuddle buddy as always, we did get out for an early walk yesterday with my mom’s dog. With her dog’s, uh, extra insulation and Miko being on diuretic medication now, we need to take more cool water breaks with them on walks and they are cute sharing a bowl of ice water.
It has been oddly smokey today with a new large fire south of us, check out the eerie pic from this morning’s walk of the smoke moving in.
We have corn growing in our garden now, isn’t it cute? And I am a fan of Booch Craft’s Watermelon Chili flavor of hard kombucha.
We’ve been trying to have more fun in the kitchen while being stuck home more, this black bean fettuccine with pasta sauce, kale, peas, and vegan parm was delicious.
So was tonight’s simple soy curl stir fry with red cabbage, onions, and carrots with tamari and kicky chili sauce. And we’ve been playing more video games, think I may have gotten Ron hooked on Animal Crossing New Horizons.
At Grocery Outlet last week I found West Soy Chicken Style Seitan pack in tofu packaging and it was pretty good in a simple stir fry.
And more salads and tofu stir fries of course.
Last week was another busy week at work, I’ve been spending more time in the office as things seem to be picking up. And coming home exhausted more too so we have been enjoying more takeout. Ron sweetly got dinner from Zest Kitchen one evening. I grabbed dinner from Pho Vegan Asian Cuisine another. And more spicy Thai tofu takeout. As this drags on, we want to support more great local places more, I can’t wait for it to be cooler and less smokey to start eating outside and restaurants more.
Ah, thankful for another day off tomorrow. I hope you have a great Labor Day and week starting with this list.

Happy long weekend! I’m so sorry to hear that the smoke is still so pervasive, coupled with the extreme heat. I really hope you’re finding ways to relax and enjoy despite all that. <3

Hi Christine! Sounds like a nice weekend! We spent one last hurray before the storm of school. Tom and the girls went back pt to school. Weird! Can’t believe the fires near you! Scary. We can’t even imagine that here, it rains so much. And Miko is so sweet =)

Crazy it’s back to school time already! And it is crazy here now, hopefully we get rain soon.

Looking at the devastation in California and Oregon is heartbreaking. My son lives in LA and he sent us pictures of ash covering his car and a palm tree that caught on fire from flying cinder. CRAZY!! Stay safe, hopefully it will cool down and you’ll get rain.

Yes, it is so tough to see. Thanks and hopefully soon!
