Happy Sunday night, I am here fighting the Sunday blues after a busy week last week. It was very crazy and stressful because poor Miko had a teeth cleaning and extractions Friday which is such a scary thing to put dogs through. When we took him for his annual vet checkup last week where the vet confirmed at least one painful, loose tooth that needed an extraction. The poor guy ended up having 4 removed and was pretty groggy when I picked him up Friday afternoon. Thankfully he seems to be feeling much better tonight after a weekend of cuddling and spoiling with soft treats.
More usual eats this week with salads, tofu stir fries, and blueberry loaded oatmeal Saturday morning shared with Miko.
We did step out last night to Mikuni’s for vegan sushi and fried potato patties that were delicious.
Today I met my sister at Veg Cafe for brunch where I got the fried mushroom “chicken” and waffle dish that was crazy delicious. Topped with vegan sour cream and picked jalapeno’s, the flavors and textures worked so well together. Normally I am picky about mushrooms, but these were delicious.
My sister got the savory spring crepe with coconut curry sauce that was also amazing with just the right amount of sweet curry.
And tonight I went with a total comfort dinner using Banza Chickpea Rigatoni blended with mushroom pasta sauce and broccoli.
The texture of the pasta was great even though many of them broke into pieces after being mixed with broccoli and it made a great, comforting meal.
But after decadent weekend eats, it’s back to better eating for the week. I decided to try this OXO Good Grips POP 6 qt. bulk pantry container for storing simple air popped popcorn for easy and healthier snacking.
I like to spritz plain popcorn with a mixture of tamari, apple cider vinegar, and maybe a little liquid smoke, but don’t always have time to pop a fresh batch when running home for lunch, etc. Looking forward to being able to refill this on the weekends to have enough for the week.

Poor Miko. I’m happy he’s feeling better.
In regards to the meal served at the SAG Awards, whoever catered that dinner could have done better. We just hosted a vegan wedding last year and the caterer made a delicious and hearty eggplant dish and a pumpkin risotto, which was so filling that nobody could finish it. Our guests raved about the food. Serving a pile of rice and carrots just feeds into the stereotype that vegans eat rabbit food.

Yes, he’s feeling much better and back to playing like a puppy this week! But so scary to put him through that.
Agreed on the SAG awards, it could have been so much better. Wow on hosting a vegan wedding, so cool!

You make me want to move to Sacramento every time you post about the amazing vegan eats out there! I would do terrible things for sushi like that, and the brunch spread… Wow! It feels like a world apart, but I know it’s just a car ride away. I should really just invest in a car, rather than a new apartment, perhaps. ;)

That would be awesome, there is so much vegan activity in this area! Goodness, you need to try Midtown Sushi, their vegan menu is insanely amazing!
Haha, yes on a car, we seriously need better public transportation between the bay and Sac!

I hear you on the teeth cleaning! Not only did it cost me about $1000 bucks but he had 7 teeth removed. And my poor dachshund is 123 human years, poor guy. Even the vet said that was his last one, no way he could ever survive if put through the procedure again. The things we do for animals!

Ugh on the costs, it was a lot less for us but still not cheap. What a sweet old guy! Leela is too old too, not sure we could put her through the process again.
