Boo on the weekend almost being over, but it’s been a great weekend. Miko has been super energetic this week ready to play and go for long walks. Even stalking me around the house waiting for the “w” word. Leela has been more into getting carried on our walks and long naps.
Last weekend for Labor Day, I met my mom and sisters Revolution Wines for lunch were the vegan options do not disappoint! We started with the vegan Stone Fruit Bruschetta and Buffalo Cauliflower to share and I went with the lighter Heirloom Caprese using Miyoko’s vegan mozzarella for my main. And the Coconut Ice Cream dessert was delicious!
There have been simpler, less decadent eats too with smoothies, marinara sautes, Tofurky stir fries, and curried lentil soup with watermelon.
Trying to enjoy as much watermelon as I can before the season is over!
We also stepped out to Pho Vegan Asian Cuisine for lunch Friday for the Kung Pao Tofu which is such a nice break from work. Friday night we stepped out to Brick Yard Kitchen for their addictive vegan Beyond Burger.
Between delicious fries and the Beyond Meat patty being cooked perfectly, not too dry and gooey vegan cheese, they may be our favorite vegan burger location currently.
I also made my usual trip to Grocery Outlet after the gym and found more new vegan dairy alternatives to try including Ripple yogurt and a new Silk Prebiotics drink for smoothies.
Things just keep getting better and better in the plant based dairy alternatives, there are so many options now and I love it.
Next month is the Sacramento Vegan Chef Challenge! I met up with the organizer today to pick up and deliver packets to local restaurants participating and even get to try my hand at recruiting more restaurants in our suburban area of greater Sacramento. We even have a brand new vegan restaurant opening this month called the Vegan Plate – I can’t wait! And I got to stop by Pho Vegan Asian Cuisine again, and a great restaurant that I used to love going to awhile back, but have not had great vegan options on their menu in awhile so I’m very excited they’ll be participating this year.
The restaurant list has grown a lot this year because it’s been a successful month for their profits too and a great opportunity to attract a bigger variety of customers and get more social media coverage. I love that most keep vegan options on their menu after and continue to benefit from having that variety. And you can start a vegan chef challenge in your city too with great vegan sponsors, let me know if you’d like more info. It’s fun!
And since I had to drive up to Auburn to deliver a packet to Nectar Cafe, why not have dinner there too? Hubby got he loaded vegan nachos and I got the baked zucchini lasagna with their own house made vegan “cheese” sauce that was delicious!
Whew, guess I’ll be focusing on more clean eating this week! But let’s focus on the list for now.
California to serve vegan options in prison.
High protein vegan foods from Men’s Health.
Incredible rise of veganism is happy news.
Defining a vegan and plant based diet.
Magician Mat Franco on being vegan.
Another successful vegan athlete, Lewis Hamilton.
And this vegan power lifter smashes records.
How running affects your body compared to walking.
Lots of fall vegan recipe inspiration here.
Do yourself a favor and go vegan.
Have a great week!

Oh, Ripple yogurt! Now that I’m excited to try.
I’ve been less than impressed by the new nutrition-centric Silk blends lately, but did scoop up some walnut milk from a new company last time I was at Grocery Outlet that was decent. Nothing to really rave about, but a nice change of pace. My big score from this week was finding Koia smoothies there for 2.49 each. They’re usually 3.99 and so wonderful, like healthy, high-protein milkshakes!

Yes, I really like it! And the walnut milk was good too, I used it mainly for coffee. Wow on the smoothies, great find!

Your babies are adorable! I have two at home too and they sure can be a handful! haha
I really want to find all these products here in Canada. I feel like we always get things late… I love the Ripple milk (soooo good) but I haven’t seen their yogurt yet. Hopefully soon!

Thanks! Very true, especially Leela as a senior dog. But worth it. :-)
I hope you get those products soon! I was jealous that Canada has been getting better plant based fast food than the US. ;-) That was the first time I’ve seen the Ripple Yogurt, hopefully you’ll have it soon.

What a fun Labor Day weekend out and about trying new foods! Such fun and unique food Christine! I’m finding I just chop a raw cauliflower and eat it with red peppers and a few nuts for dinner because I don’t want to cook!
christine says
Thanks and that’s a great way to enjoy cauliflower too! :-)
