Happy Wednesday! I know, Friday would be better and it’s getting closer. I have been trying to mix up the variety of food we feed the pups so they get a variety of nutrients too. I’ve always been a fan of V-Dog Kibble and get regular shipments of it and V-Dog Wiggle Biscuits. I’ll rotate mixing in cooked lentils, chickpeas, even steamed veggies. But I’m trying vegan canned dog food now to mix in with the kiddle starting with Halo Vegan Adult Dog Food.
I like that it’s fortified with B12 and other vitamins and is in a pate form more like traditional dog food and Leela was an instant fan of it. Miko took a little longer to warm up to it, but likes it now.
They also love crunchy veggie snack sticks in their dinner. So far so good with the food, but they do seem to have, uh, impressive poops with the additional fiber – hehe.
I’m still in summer mode here craving cooler, colorful salads in the heat and I love dill for such a fresh summer flavor. This is an interesting, lighter summer dressing that celebrates dill with raw garlic and a little decadent tahini that will add a lot of flavor.
Tahini Dijon Dressing
- 2 tbsp. tahini
- 1 tbsp. dill paste
- 2 tbsp. dijon mustard
- 1 clove of garlic
- 2 tbsp. nutritional yeast
- 1 tbsp. miso paste
- ¼ cup water as needed
- salt and pepper to taste
Place all ingredients into a high speed blender and blend to a smooth and creamy texture. Serve and enjoy! Makes 2-4 servings.
The texture is a little lighter, but it’s loaded with kicky Dijon, dill, and garlic, a combo that always works for me.
And it still coats perfectly adding lively pop to these spinach leaves.
It’s bright and perfect for celebrating the dog days of summer.

We are still in summer mood here too, one of the hottest summers ever. But we will take it! And I had no idea vegan dog food was an option. I will have to look into that.

Yes, back to a high of 100 this weekend – so we are too! :-) I love all the vegan dog food options showing up, my dogs energy and weight seem to be benefiting too from a plant based diet. Plus all the toxic byproducts in cheap dog food scare me!

It’s exciting that there are more choices for vegan dog food these days, with even greater options on the horizon. Have you heard of Wild Earth? They’re a startup based in SF and will be launching treats in the fall, actual food in the spring. I’m working with them on the photography end and can’t wait to share more!
christine says
Agreed, love all the options. I heard about Wild Earth and that is so exciting for you! Can’t wait to try them next!

Thank you for introducing me to Halo dog food. My dogs started out liking V Dog, and then they rejected it.
christine says
Interesting on V-Dog, mine love it more with warmed water or veggie broth and/or mixed with wet dog food.

That dressing sounds good! I know some people don’t like raw garlic but well-blended into things it can be just what you want.
christine says
Thanks and exactly on raw garlic, blended is my favorite way to enjoy it.

Oh! A new vegan dog food! Cool! I still can’t find V-Dog around here either! Bummer!

Yes and we have more vegan dog food options coming – exciting!
