This week I learned shopping for alarm clocks suck. It’s time to replace my 20+ year old clock radio due to volume issues and I spent way too much time filtering through random, crappy options on Amazon reading reviews. I decided to order a $17 cool looking wood model that had great reviews and I hate it! It does not have a simple switch to turn the alarm off or on. Oh no, instead it’s a sequence of buttons on the limited controls to enable the alarm for certain days of the week and there’s no way to turn it off in the morning, it just runs for a minute unless the tiny, uniform snooze button is pushed. Not a marriage friendly option and it will be going back this week. How can this thing have good reviews?!?
Hey, I’m thankful that was the most annoying thing this week because my eats have been pretty great from sharing a simple cauliflower saute with Miko.
To having lazy weekend days inside during triple digit heat outside and getting a sweet surprise from hubby of Simple Red Vines and Endangered Species chocolate. I’m saving the Red Vines for the next trip to the movies, haha.
I also had a great lunch from Pho Vegan Asian Cuisine one day of vegan crunchy “shrimp” and spicy Kung Pao Tofu.
Friday night we stepped out to Kasbah Lounge in midtown Sacramento for more enjoying The Great Sacramento Vegan Burger Battle, hubby tried the Impossible Burger option and the housemade seitan burger for me.
Both great, the Impossible Burger was a better texture, but the tangy vegan feta and picked onion really brought the seitan burger to life!
After we headed to a local dive bar/club to watch a friend’s band play and it was an interesting and fun experience! Loved the graffiti and stickers in the restrooms, should have brought some fun vegan stickers to add!
The bands were great, we had a great time hanging with friends and hearing a couple of other new bands too. We were out so late that I got a lazy and late start Saturday morning that Miko was not happy about.
I also finally installed bias lighting on my monitor while listening to the Steve-O episode of the Rich Roll podcast.
We rearranged our home office awhile back to give hubby the bigger side since he works from home, but that put my monitor against a dark wall which seemed straining on my eyes for writing at night. I ordered this simple lighting solution and it was easier than I thought to install and makes a huge difference.
Last night was the final night of The Great Sacramento VeganBurger Battle, boo. We tried to hit another new local place to try, but they were closing early due to the heat. So we ended up at Buck & Sadie’s again for their crazy Impossible Burger creations. Hubby wanted the Shroomy Burger this time and I got the original with a salad.
I think they might be the best. The burgers are crazy fun and a little messy with lots of melted vegan cheese, but they’re delicious! And I really hope they keep serving the Impossible Burger!
After having so many great, decadent burgers over the last month, it’s probably time to clean things up this month with better smoothies and cleaner plant protein. Oriya Organics wants to give you a chance to do that by giving away a container of Gather Paleo Plant Protein to one lucky reader!
I’ve been trying this protein for the last few weeks in smoothies and feel great about the simple list of whole plant protein ingredients. The powder texture is smooth and simple flavor can go great in sweet recipes, such as fruit smoothies and banana soft serve, or savory, such as hummus, bean dips, and dressings for creative options to get whole plant protein.

So many great eats this week! We went to a three day musical festival in Chicago a few weeks ago and the Impossible Burger was on the menu. We were so happy!!
I’ve tried Oriya Organics and it’s a great product.
