Where did the weekend go? Boo. It’s been a good weekend, but busy. I just got back from picking my mom up from the airport and getting her settled at home back with her dog, Dasher, who has been staying with us for the last 9 days. It’s been hectic caring for 3 dogs and Dasher loves Miko and always wants to be near him.
There have been fights over my lap and Dasher is a bit too heavy to share my lap with Miko, oof. But he’s a sweet heart and aside from the little bumps, it was a good week.
I managed to celebrate National Smoothie Day last week with a delicious smoothie packed with Oriya Organics Gather Paleo Plant Protein and a fun Grocery Outlet find – Good Karma Dairy Free Probiotic Strawberry Drinkable Yogurt.
The yogurt was delicious in a smoothie, it adds a tangy strawberry flavor without being too sweet.
With craziness at home and work this week, I’ve been keeping it simple with tofu stir fries for dinner and more quick cook grits for weekend breakfasts.
But we did get out for more vegan burger eating for The Great Sacramento Vegan Burger Battle going on this month. Friday night we stepped out to Zest Kitchen for the Mahalo Burger and vegan pina colada cheesecake.
It was more of a traditional, house made veggie patty with pineapple BBQ flavors and it was delicious! I like the texture of the veggie patty and appreciated that it wasn’t trying to be a realistic beef patty.
Last night we had the other end of the vegan burger spectrum with the vegan creations from The Patriot using the Impossible Burger.
We have never been to The Patriot before and appreciated the unique environment – like a classy food court with plentiful seating and sharing the open dining area with other restaurants with a really nice bar in the center and live music. The service was great, prompt and attentive and the Impossible Burger creations were delicious!
Hubby went for the more traditional burger with fries and I tried the tangy Kim Chi burger with chips. Both great, mine was packed with drippy and flavorful sauce that was a little messy and sticky. I really hope they keep vegan options on the menu because we want to go back soon. Okay, to the list:

More awesome burgers Christine! And yes, caring for 3 dogs is a bit chaotic. We just had my in-laws lab (as big as a lion I tell you!) after my mom’s fat Westie went home. Insanity.

Thanks and they were! Wow, that’s a lot of dog chaos! Feeding time here was crazy trying to keep our guest from eating the other dog’s meals, haha.

Man, I wish this veggie burger competition was state-wide! It’s so inspiring to see the chefs out there getting into it with such enthusiasm and creativity. I also wish I had time for a road trip before it was over!

Me too – hopefully some day! It would be awesome if you could stop by!

Your mom’s dog is so sweet. It’s hard to add another pup into the mix. When I watch Alex’s two it’s a challenge. Four dogs equals 100 times more chaos and shedding. Lol!
My husband and I were at a music festival this weekend. It’s our 4th year going and this year they had Impossible burgers on the menu. We were so excited and convinced a couple who where standing in line next to us to try them. Not sure what they thought, but hopefully they liked them.

So true, it can be chaos and walk times were crazy with all three. That is awesome about the Impossible Burger, great job! I was excited I got coworkers to try a veggie burger … but they’re still eating crappy fast food too. Baby steps.
