I am always looking for new ways to reduce our use of disposable plastic products, but freezer bags are the best for storing bananas and other frozen fruits and veggies for smoothies. I try to reuse those for as long as I can, but they don’t wash or wear well with frequent loading and freezing. I grabbed these Reusable Silicone Bags from Amazon last week to try for freezing bananas.
I really like that the bottoms open up to stand up and they’re dishwasher safe. So far so good for holding frozen bananas.
They’re not perfect, the top slide clip can be a little tough to seal when the bags are full and they’re a little smaller than large freezer bags. But they compact nicely for storing flat in the freezer and this helps eliminate a lot of our freezer bag needs.
Ugh, it has been a week and weekend with work! We have a lot of projects going on now and I was on call this week, so I’ve been a little absent the last few days and still playing catch up. I did get out to dinner with hubby Friday for our favorite Thai vegan dishes.
Yesterday was crazy and started very early with a 6 am run before heading into work at 8 am for a weekend overtime project setting up and re configuring networks. We were only supposed to work for a few hours wrapping up by lunch, but it turned into a 14.5 hour day and me leaving very tired, hungry, and cranky at 10:30 pm. Sweet hubby had dinner and treats ready for whatever mood I was in.
Wine, raw vegan treats, kombucha, vegan chocolate cake, and a quinoa wrap from Zest Kitchen! He is such a sweet angel, I stuck with just the wine and quinoa wrap because I was wiped.
Good thing I got all of that overtime in because we had a little crisis with Leela this morning.
I noticed she had a pee accident in the house with a couple of blood spots in it. Then another shortly after and more bloody pee on a walk. So to the urgent vet clinic we went.
She spent a few hours there while they got a pee sample and checked for other problems and she’s on antibiotics for a bladder infection while we wait for the urinary tests to come back. And urgent vet care is not cheap, gah! But I was worried it was a serious and painful problem that could not wait until Monday for her regular vet. She handled the whole ordeal well considering and pouted under the coffee table for awhile when we got home.
Not an exciting week or weekend, if you could call it that. Keeping my fingers crossed that next week is calmer! So to the list!

Vet bills can totally bankrupt you! Bleh. Hope Leela is okay! But I do love your reusable bags, that’s always an issue for me. I love freezing things like celery and onions for quick soups later on, but yes, I try not to go through too many. Tough! I re-use bags too, but they only last up to a point.

Yes, ugh – especially emergency weekend ones! Thanks on Leela, she seems better with no more blood. But still restless and having to pee a lot. The bags are interesting and seem to work well, looking forward to trying more solutions like them.

Poor Leela! I hope dogs don’t feel as bad as humans do when they have bladder infections. :(
I love those freezer bags! I’m going to order some today. I use reusable produce bags and straws, as well as shopping bags. Those are so perfect as I hate using plastic. Thanks for sharing!
Your hubby is such a sweetheart. I would have grabbed the bottle of wine and headed to bed with it after a day like that-lol!

I know and that’s why I didn’t want to wait until Monday – yikes!
Thanks on the freezer bags, so far so good and I’ll be looking at more solutions like that.
Haha, totally tempted on the entire bottle of wine!

I’m in the exact same boat with you on the plastic bags. Hate the waste but love the convenience! I’ll have to check out this reusable solution… Glad to know that alternatives exist, at least.

So true, they’re easy to use and mostly re-washable. But they do not last forever and get a little funky looking. So far so good with these and hand washing is really easy.

I have to blog about our furkids last month of vet visits too. It’s been a rough one! They are all still with us – but LOTS of stuff happening lately!
I hope she’s ok!!!! Poor thing!

All, yes! Leela seems to be aging rapidly now with blindness and not enjoying her walks, makes me sad!
