Eating & Running

September 15, 2016 by christine

We’re back down to two dogs after dog sitting my mom’s dog for a few days and I think Miko misses his friend now. They were cute little cuddle buddies sharing the couch.

And Miko didn’t even mind when Dasher stuffed himself in Miko’s bed.

But it was not easy walking all three dogs especially when Dasher is overly excited about a new neighborhood darting from one side to the other for new smells. And keeping the peace at dinner time was not easy!

Weekly training runs have been tough this week after long days at work, I didn’t hit the tempo paces I wanted, but did get in the mileage and some fast intervals. I stepped out for a 4-mile run after work yesterday instead of the gym since the temps were in the low 80s, but I swear it felt like the high 90s in the sun and the heat knocked me down a bit.

It’s supposed to be in the high 90s again this weekend, so I need to get out early for Sunday’s long run and enjoy the air conditioning for the rest of the day!

Eats have been fun this week so far with a simple spaghetti dinner with Trader Joe’s Organic Spaghetti sauce and Explore Asian Organic Soybean Spaghetti.

No need to add protein to this simple dish when the soybean spaghetti is already loaded with it.

I picked up a bag of Trader Joe’s fresh organic broccoli slaw and enjoyed it in this oil free tempeh, kale, and potato stir fry.

And this simple dinner salad with more chopped tempeh, sprouts, and a variety of great veggies.

And it’s also great in smoothies for a healthy veggie boost.

What is your favorite post-gym meal?

There are so many great bean-based noodles on the market now! Gluten-free pasta sure has come a long way… I love the fact that these have personality (texture and flavor) all their own, without trying too hard to imitate flour-based noodles. That makes all the difference, at least to this gluten-loving eater. It’s nice to have another option that brings something new to the table.

So true and I’ve been having fun trying the variety or textures and flavors and appreciate that they’re more nutrient dense than flour based noodles.

    Cute dog pics!

It’s so hard to run in the heat and the sun. My favorite recovery meal is a protein smoothie. I’m just not that hungry after a long run or an intense workout. Good luck with your long run on Sunday. I’m running 20. Yikes!

Agreed on smoothies, seems to take my stomach a while to wake up after a long run. Thanks and yikes on 20 miles, good luck with that!

I am a waffle person post gym. I usually eat breakfast after running, so it’s waffles, toast and oatmeal most days for me :-)

Yum on waffles, I need to get out of waffle iron to experiment with more recipes.

Those pups are so cute. I know I say it every week but it’s true!

I love protein shakes right after a workout. I’ve been using Vega Sport lately. They’re quick and I can have one before I even shower and then focus on a bigger meal a little later.

We all know it’s best to have a healthy snack after working out. I often have the habit of eating a small meal of protein and healthy carbs helps increase the benefits of my workout and speeds up the fat loss process.
Btw, your dogs look so cute :)
