Marathon Training is Getting Real

August 11, 2016 by christine

Happy Friday Eve! It is nice to chill and write after busy work days and 3 days of intense running workouts in a row.

Yeah, 5 running workouts this week in the triple digit heat – things are getting real with marathon training! And 4 of them have been on a treadmill at the gym, not super exciting.

I’ve been mixing the treadmill workouts up with tempo runs, easy runs, hill training, and trying all the different treadmill models while switching between listening to podcasts and music.

I need good workout music for the tempo fast runs, too tiring to listen to a podcast and something higher energy and motivating helps. Really looking forward to the weather cooling off to do more outdoor weeknight runs, maybe throw on my running clothes and drive to a pretty trail right after work.

And I’m aggressively keeping up with breakfast smoothies mixing in super foods like fennel seed and watermelon for muscle recovery, ginger, green tea, and plenty of cacao powder and frozen bananas.

So far so good, had some minor aches and pains this week in my calf and ankle that have settled down, little adjustments here and there I guess.

My eats are lacking this week, not too exciting at all because I need to do a massive grocery shopping trip this weekend to restock fruits and veggies. So there was this simple salad with hummus dressing and carrots for lunch one day.

I made a bag of frozen veggies and can of organic chickpeas interesting sauteing them in a dab of spicy curry paste and coconut milk.

And threw in the last bit of organic fast cook brown rice to make it a hearty meal.

Sweet Miko was ready to share chickpea and cauliflower nibbles.

Again, really glad this week is almost over! And we’ve been having fun watching the Olympics, but I need more time because watching gymnastics until 11 pm doesn’t work when I gotta get up early! I’ll be catching up with the Tivo this weekend and washing lots of running clothes!

Sounds like training is going well! I wish I could run for 30 mins that fast!

    Miko is so cute!

It’s going okay so far, hopefully it can stay that way! :-)

You speedster! I love your watch! Way to get those hard runs done in this heat. It has been a bear, but you’re much stronger for it :-)

Haha, thanks – the Pebble Health app is pretty fun. Very true on being stronger, I try to remind myself that I’m building endurance in heat even if my pace seems lacking.

Your “unexciting” eats put mine to shame! I default to cold cereal and raw fruits and veggies, truth be told. That all looks delicious!

Aw, thanks! It’s been off and on lately because finding time to a massive grocery haul has been a problem sadly!

The late night gymnastics are driving me nuts too! I usually go to bed around 10 so it is a big no go for me. T_T

Yes, we’ve been watching a lot of it recorded which is a process to trying to skip through parts and find gymnastics!
