Easy Shopping and Eating

We had some chihuahua drama last night when Miko left is teddy bear on Leela’s favorite bed.

IMG_1095

Leela does not like anyone disturbing her nap time, especially bouncy, playful Miko. He wanted his teddy bear, but did not want to suffer the Leela wrath and pouted at me until I caved and grabbed his toy for him.

IMG_1096

Such a sad face. He crashed later with me after intense play sessions on the couch working through the final season of Nurse Jackie.

IMG_1085

Whew, it’s been a busy week with tons of stress and drama at work tough to not take home. But Sunday’s scenic trail run was a great way to start the week.

IMG_1073

It wasn’t a fast run since it was on hilly trails, but not shabby and the views were worth it!

IMG_1074

But also hot, it was a high of 80 that day and a reminder that summer and triple digit heat is coming and my weekend long runs will need to shift to first thing in the mornings soon.

It’s tough to fit in long runs during the week with my work schedule. I have to leave the house at 7am and I’m not that much of a morning person to cram in a very early run and shower before! So weekday runs are usually speed work on a treadmill after a busy day at work. It’s going to be interesting adding longer weekday runs in for marathon training, I might try going to the gym after work 4 days a week to alternate longer runs with cross-training and weights. But hey, it will be a great way to blow off work stress!

Check out the tomato plants in the AeroGarden after just 10 days!

IMG_1093

Crazy, they actually look like tomato plants already!

Yesterday I ventured to Costco after work to load up on fruits and veggies and I’m always amazed at the new vegan products showing up including Vega and Orgain Vegan protein powders, vegan apple pies in the bakery sections, ready made quinoa dishes, and even Larabars now.

IMG_1089

I grabbed two staples I grab on every trip – House Foods Organic Tofu and Silk Organic Almondmilk.

IMG_1088

The House Foods tofu is great for easy, throw together dinners in a wok with a firm texture, low calorie, and good source of protein.

IMG_1091

I simmered it with sweet potato, pepper, carrots, and chopped broccoli in a curry oil free stir fry which took 10 minutes.

IMG_1092

Perfect since my patience was wearing thin after a crazy work day and shopping! Sweet Miko was happy to share sweet potato and carrot nibbles.

How do you cram in running around your work schedule?

What’s a favorite go to easy meal for you?

Arggghhh! I hate work drama. Thankfully, I’m on my maternity leave, so I don’t have to deal with it and planning runs is so much easier too :D I also started growing some herbs at home. It’s crazy how such a small thing can make you happy haha!

Nice and so true about work drama, it can be so consuming!

Yes and veggies, and the sauce base was water, tamari, curry powder, turmeric, garlic, with a little cayenne for this one.

Me too on Costco, just wish ours was not so crowded – Wednesdays are the best days to go to avoid crowds.

Ours was ordered from http://www.aerogarden.com/ during a sale.

I love to run before work, because I usually work 12-8 or 9. An easy meal for me is PB&J or PB&banana I’ll never get tired of that :-)

I would love to run before work too, it seems like the perfect time and so peaceful in the morning.

Chihuahua drama cracked me up. I hear you though, if my little Sophie is napping and Firenze bothers her, she gets very nasty (in a cute way).

I want to join a Costco but there’s not one close to my house. I’ve heard of so many good veg finds there lately.

I try to go running or to the gym right after work each day. I actually change at work to make myself go right to a workout. It doesn’t always work if something comes up but most days it does.

One of my quick go-to meals is what I call a bunny bowl. I basically throw in a grain that I made for the week, beans, and whatever veggies I have on hand and top it with a quick sauce . I can have that on the table in like 15-20 mins. :)

Lol, Leela can be very protective of her space!

Bummer about Costco, hope they add a location soon!

Me too on the gym, it’s just too early to try and cram in a workout or run before the gym so I go right after.

The bunny bowl sounds wonderful! I do a lot of similar dishes in woks.

LOL! I can totally relate to the chihuahua drama. I have a bit of that every day in my house.

I need to run over to Costco and see if they have that tofu. I’m so happy they’re carrying more and more plant-based foods.

Fortunately my blog is my job so I have flexibility. I’m going to plan on doing my long runs in the mornings so I can shower earlier rather than later. :) I’d love to run on those trails. So beautiful!

Oh yes, we have daily drama here too on who’s stealing the others breakfast or dinner, favorite blanket, etc. All fun. :-)

Me too on Costco, ours just started carrying a local brand of tofu from Sacramento no which I’m really excited about.

That is so nice and I wish I could say the same, but balancing blog, full time IT job, and running is interesting sometimes!
