Creamy Spirulina Dressing

March 17, 2016 by christine

I think I’m still adjusting to the time change and losing an hour on a race day last weekend because getting out of bed for work has been tough this week. But Smokey is enjoying the additional sunshine in the evenings.

And, oh yeah, it’s St. Patrick’s Day and I have a green recipe for you! I completely planned that … yeah. I have a vibrant green pack of spirulina powder to get creative with from Spiral Spring Spirulina and it’s a huge bag that could easily fuel smoothies and dressings for months since a little spoonful goes a looooooong way.

Just a teaspoon of the powder turned a huge salad into a festive green celebration.

Why consume spirulina powder? It’s a nutritional powerhouse containing 60% complete protein and an impressive amount of vitamins. It’s so nutritional that you probably shouldn’t over consume it and maybe use it a couple of times a week or less. I created a super food salad dressing with it also packing garlic, ginger, turmeric, hemp seeds, and apple cider vinegar. Don’t you feel healthier after just reading that?

Creamy Spirulina Dressing

  • 1 tsp. spirulina powder
  • 1” chunk of fresh ginger
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • ¼ tsp. turmeric
  • dash of cayenne
  • 2 tbsp. apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tbsp. fresh chopped parsley
  • ½ cup shelled hemp seeds
  • ½ cup water as needed
  • salt and pepper to taste

Place all ingredients into a high speed blender and blend to a smooth and creamy texture. Serve and enjoy! Makes 4 servings.

This creamy green dressing coated a kicky salad with chipotle veggie burger and mixed greens.

And turned everything green! The nutritional yeast and vegan bacon bits added a nice color pop to the salad. :-)

The dressing has a rich and creamy texture with a tangy gingery and garlic pop and playful hint of heat from the cayenne, great way to enjoy a hearty green monster meal salad.

Leela looked at the salad kind of funny trying to decide if it’s worth begging for.

That’s a GREEN dressing! I’ll have to try it as I’m still trying to love spirulina. Leela is so cute, great picture.

So true, lol! Spirulina is growing on me more, it’s such a superfood for athletes and great in pre-race smoothies too.

Hooray for more spirulina love! I still have a ton of it leftover, so I’m thrilled to have additional tasty inspiration.
