Poor Leela is still having a rough time with allergies and was back to the vet today. Over the weekend, she turned into a little hunger monster that had to pee a lot! Not like her at all and I got paranoid about possible bladder infection, diabetes, etc.
Nope, it was just the prednisone she was taking for her allergy symptoms and the vet took her off of it. She’s still a little angry at me for going to the vet again.
And still sneezing and sniffling up a storm with her allergies! I’m still trying to figure out what I can do to help, but apparently it’s a problem for a lot of dogs here this year with the drought and whacky weather.
I did come up with another raw broccoli recipe which helps me enjoy more raw broccoli. This hummus recipe replaces the chickpeas with broccoli and adds a little flare with garlic and paprika. It’s lighter than the traditional stuff, but not lacking in flavor or texture.
Broccoli Hummus
- 2 cups chopped broccoli
- 1/4 cup tahini
- 2 tbsp. apple cider vinegar
- 1/4 cup nutritional yeast
- 2 cloves of garlic
- 1 tsp. dried parsley
- 1/8 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/4 cup water (as needed if using a blender)
Place all ingredients into a food processor or blender. Process or blend to a creamy, hummus-like texture. Serve and enjoy! Makes 4 servings.
You could use either a blender or a food processor for it, I went blender for a simpler weeknight recipe.
The texture is very thick and creamy.
I layered the hummus into simple veggies wraps.
And was surprised how smooth and creamy it was for raw broccoli, the flavor was savory with just the right amount of flare masking the slight bitterness raw broccoli can have. Miko was disappointed I didn’t share.

Thanks, the texture works very well for broccoli.

Wow that hummus looks great! I’ve made a number of varieties of hummus but never any with raw broccoli. I’m always trying to incorporate more raw foods when I can so that is a great idea.
I hope you little girl is feeling better soon. Allergies are no fun.

Me too on raw broccoli and this is a great way to get it! :-)

Poor little Leela, it just keeps going on and on. :( The puppy I just rescued had kennel cough, and now Alex’s puppy and my little Gizmo has it too. And they were vaccinated!
The addition of broccoli to the hummus is so smart. Not only does it look pretty, it’s so much healthier. That wrap looks so good!

Thanks on Leela, guess we’ll just be muddling through it for now and hoping things settle down for her.
