Whew, almost Friday and then a 3-day weekend! I’m ready after a busy week and thankful. Skipper is very thankful for V-Dog.
The dogs get two meals a day now, breakfast and dinner, because that schedule is better for Skipper’s blood sugar. I had to break up the chihuahuas dinner into two small meals, but Skipper could easily eat a few more meals a day! I like that V-Dog is actually cheaper than the higher-quality non-vegan dog foods the vet recommended for Skipper and it has more fiber which is supposed to be great for diabetic dogs. He seems to be thriving on it getting more energy and he’s gained a couple of pounds which is very good. The chihuahuas prefer it mixed with a little warm water to soften the crunchiness since they have tiny mouths. :-) We go through a lot of 30 lb. bags of V-Dog here!
And I go through a lot of Garden or Life’s Raw Protein powder. It’s one of my favorite protein powders for smoothies for it’s price to quality ratio and I like that it has probiotics blended in.
Lately I’ve been experimenting using the plain flavored protein in more savory recipes as a way to add more protein to salads and veggies. I created this sauce for dipping lightly steamed broccoli, but found it works for other dishes too.
Cheesy Protein Sauce
- 2 tbsp. chia seeds
- 2-3 carrots, chopped
- 2 tbsp. nutritional yeast
- 1 tsp. Dijon mustart
- 1 scoop Raw Protein
- 1 tbsp. white miso paste
- 2 tbsp. lemon juice
- 1/4 tsp. turmeric
- 1/4 cup almonds
- 1 cup water, as needed
Place all ingredients into a high speed blender and blend to a smooth and creamy texture. Makes 2-4 servings.
The color of the sauce definitely looks cheesy and it has a tangy and savory flavor with a creamy texture.
Broccoli and cheesy just seemed like they were meant to be together and luckily very veganizable. For a simple dish, I just drizzled the sauce over the broccoli and sprinkled with smokey seasonings for a fun finger food.
And found the sauce leftovers made a great salad dressing the second night.
Versatile and easy – perfect for a busy week!
