Run Rocklin 12k

April 7, 2013 by christine

Whew, I’m feeling a little wiped after an awesome 12k race! Today started very early with a huge pre-race smoothie of hemp protein powder, strawberries, banana, kale, carrots, chia seeds, and dates for plenty of energy. I left the house at 6:45am to pick up my sister and dash to the Run Rocklin 12k we ran together. And it was a packed event with a kids run, 5k, and 12k – lots of runner of all types and ages.

I’ve never run this race before, but really enjoyed the distance and course even though it was very hilly! Even more enjoyable was the perfect weather we got this morning, no wind or rain as the forecast showed!

The course winded through hilly and scenic neighborhoods.

And I PR’d for the distance coming in at under 9-minute miles, 11th of 49 for my age group.

I noticed an older gentleman a few runners ahead of me in the race and managed to stay close to him. When I checked the results, I was floored and inspired to learn he’s 81-years-old and beat me! That’s awesome! I hope to be an active runner at his age!

Pleased with ourselves, my sister and I loaded up on freebies before heading home to shower.

Sweet hubby took me out for a wonderful lunch at Baagan to celebrate after where I started with kale chips.

Then a huge kale salad.

And an amazing chocolate banana soft serve ice “cream” topped with house make raw vegan chocolate chunks. But it disappeared before I could get a good picture!

Congrats on doing so well in the race! And it looks like, like me, you’re even more obsessed with kale than usual right now-I swear I’ve been dreaming about it.

Thanks, it was a gorgeous run. I might be slowing down on running for a bit now because hubby wants to get more into biking this summer, we’ll see!

It looks and sounds like you had a great time. I love kale, and enjoy eating it directly from the garden. Love raw kale chips too, used to make them quite often with my dehydrator. Once the green leafy veggies are ready to harvest I’ll be making more.

My nine year old daughter loves to run, so I’m planning to do a mini marathon with her during the summer. My father can still run circles around people half his age. He’s 74. He’s stayed an athlete throughout life. I’m hoping I’m the same way when I’m his age.

Love kale chips too and plan on adding a lot more to my garden just so I can make more.

How fun with your daughter and that’s great about your father! That’s the trick I guess, stay active always and I hope I can too!
