Raw Vegan Sour Cream Dressing

November 5, 2012 by christine

Mondays seem to be salad days for me, I like to start the week off right after a weekend of indulgence. But a healthier dressing recipe that tastes like an indulgence is okay after a long day back to the grind, right? This interesting recipe for Sour Cream Dressing caught my eye for the sweet and tangy reviews and the unusual flavor combo of mustard, sugar, and way too much olive oil. I took it on raw vegan style swapping the oil, sour cream, and sugar out with an avocado, banana, and lemon juice. And it tasted a lot like a tangy sour cream dressing!

Raw Vegan Sour Cream Dressing

  • 1 medium avocado
  • 1 tsp. of salt
  • 1/2 tsp. of mustard powder
  • juice of one lemon
  • 1 tsp. dried parsley
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • 1 banana, peeled and chopped
  • dash of black pepper

Place all ingredients into a high speed blender and blend to a smooth and creamy texture. Makes 6 servings.

The texture of the dressing is very thick and creamy, it could also make a great sour cream dip.

It took a little effort to work into a large salad it’s so thick, but very worth it as the dressing coated the veggies nicely with a slightly tangy, sour, and sweet flavor.

The dressing tastes a lot like a tangy sour cream.

Can’t say if the flavor is better than the traditional recipe, but I can say it’s better for you without all the oil and sugar – but does not taste like it. :-)

After tomorrow there will no more political ads or filtering through the same political cartoons on Facebook! And no more avoiding unsavory political conversations at work! And no more sifting through political mailers. Woohoo!

Love that this isn’t nut-based (though I love me some nuts!) – thanks for a great – and easy – recipe!

Thanks, true on nuts – they have their place, just not in lighter dressings. :-)
