New Protein & Old Favorite

June 13, 2011 by christine

A lot of progress was made today on our new office thanks to hubby, but I’m still waiting for my new chair and have plenty of organizing to do. With all the new shelves, lots of important decisions on displaying and organizing them without looking cluttered. It’s getting there and the reveal will come … eventually. :-)

I can reveal another new protein powder I found, NutriBiotic Rice Protein. I’m always looking to try new vegan protein powders for flavor and nutritional variety in breakfast smoothies, but also to save money. As much as I like Sun Warrior Vanilla Protein, it seems to disappear fast for $47 a pop. This container is much more reasonable for $14.

The texture is very much like Sun Warrior, a fine, heavy-ish powder with a slight vanilla flavor. But it’s not as strong or sweet as Sun Warrior, not a big deal when blended with fruit and greens. The powder is fine enough to shake with water or juice when you don’t have access to a blender making a good option for traveling.

But you’ll probably need to add vanilla and stevia if mixing into a banana soft serve or dessert to pump up the flavor.

After a long day at work, I was just not feeling creative for dinner. I did have broccoli and cauliflower to use up and went with my Creamy Hemp Seed sauce because it’s fast, easy, and delicious with fresh rosemary and onion. I tend to go for creamy, comfort sauces after a draining day.

Not exactly exciting, but a healthy go to when I want comfort food.

What is a go to comfort food for you?

What a tease! Love that lamp and mask!

Hmmm comfort food varies but I have to say that your choice is healthier than mine. I think fried or mashed (as in potatoes) when I think comfort ;)

Yum, potatoes are a comfort food for me too, but I got my fix on Sunday’s brunch for awhile! :-)

you know i tried the plain nutribiotic YEARS ago…at least 5-6 and it was my 1st vegan protein powder. i thought it was horrible! but my tastebuds have changed, time has passed, i bet the vanilla is way better than the plain, and at 1/3rd the cost of sun warrior, i’d be willing to try the NB and just add agave if I want it sweeter :)

Have you tried the plain Sun Warrior protein powder? I haven’t, but wondered if it had a bitter, earthy flavor.

Never tried the plain. Only vanilla and chocolate Sun Warrior.

I get the plain because xanthan gum (which is in the flavored types) upsets my tummy. I like it just fine. I usually put it in a cacao/banana/hemp milk smoothie and I don’t think it tastes bitter at all

Sounds good, I adore adding frozen banana with cacao to smoothies, even great with plain hemp protein powder.

Comfort food? Mashed potato or pasta :)

    Averie and Christine…
Despite the cost, is Sun Warrior your favorite protein powder? I have been thinking of ordering some but it is so expensive!
I usually will add raw hemp seeds, almond butter or other protein-rich whole foods to my smoothies, but I’m sure a serving Sun Warrior provides even more protein.
    Thoughts?

Hi Claire, Sun Warrior is one of my favorites, but not enough to justify the price on a regular basis. To me, Olympian Labs Vanilla Protein tastes equally good for half the price:

I also alternate between plain hemp protein a lot because its even cheaper and is probably the healthiest, unprocessed protein option:

Oh, I wish I could order all these wonderful protein powders in Germany! Sun Warrior is the only one I can get here (and only natural taste), and I really like it, so I’m happy for that and pay the price. ;)

I’m glad you can get Sun Warrior, do you order it from Amazon?
