Relaxing, Shopping & Dining

April 3, 2011 by christine

Sunday mornings are great for me, I usually wake up semi-early, drink too much coffee and lounge around reading the paper with Leela while hubby sleeps in.

Just laid back quiet time with a chihuahua hamming it up for attention.

By the time I was coffee’d out this morning, I decided it was time to try a new breakfast – a smoothie in a bowl. It’s not too different from my usual smoothie of Sun Warrior protein powder, kale, carrots and frozen berries, I just reduced the amount of water to thicken it up and poured it into a bowl to eat with a spoon.

And it was fun, almost like having a sweet, frozen treat for breakfast. I can see adding Gena’s Buckwheat Cereal to it in the future for a little crunch and texture.

After hitting the gym and Target to load up on pet food, TP and other essentials, I headed over to my mom’s to start the great journey of replacing her 6-year-old laptop by looking at the Apple store. Naturally I had to get a few awkward shots of her cat first.

This guy is 18-years-old and a total sweetheart. And he’s shedding like crazy, so naturally he wants tons of attention when I’m wearing black.

I think we’re decided on getting my mom an iMac to replace her laptop, but we started with a Mac OS book for her to read first after letting her tinker with the display Macs.

Then we headed into Sacramento to meet my sisters and my mom’s friend to discuss baby shower plans for her daughter-in-law, I’m excited because it’ll be a mostly raw shower that I’ll be doing appetizers for. We had planned to meet at a vegan restaurant, but they closed early on Sunday – I was pretty bummed. :-( So we met at a little bistro instead and got a great table outside to enjoy the nice weather. They didn’t have too many vegan options, so I ended up veganizing a couple of dishes starting with a simple, but tasty salad.

Glass of wine to go with it. :-)

Then a lovely olive oil and mushroom flat bread that was wonderful. It originally had goat cheese on it, but I had them hold it.

Not bad, but not overwhelmingly exciting. We did have a great time chatting away for hours and need to do that more. But I’m still craving the vegan restaurant and may have to try again next weekend.

Now I’m exhausted after a busy day and apparently my cat is too, he’s crashed out next to his catnip toy after chasing it around the house all evening.

How was your Sunday?

What a sweet white cat. 18, that’s awesome! I hope my kitty lives that long.

I’m in love with your dog! My Sunday was spent at work (as usual!), as the weekend in the UAE is Friday /Saturday.

I think I’m addicted to them in a bowl too. But this morning I was running late and chugged it on a glass which isn’t a great way to savor it! :-p

Hemp protein powder is good in smoothies and it has a mild flavor that can go either savory or sweet. It can also be blended with flour for higher protein baked goods if you don’t mind the green color.
