Snacking All Day

March 4, 2011 by christine

Happy Friday! Finally, the crazy week is over. Oh wait, I’m on call this weekend. But I have a pretty good weekend planned with more running, a raw fest, and hopefully some play time in my own kitchen. And maybe addressing the mountain of laundry from the week, we’ll see. Food-wise it was an odd day for me, instead of three meals, I grazed through the day starting with my breakfast smoothie. I threw together a huge, two-serving smoothie this morning containing a Sun Warrior Protein Powder, Vega Whole Health Optimizer, 2 kiwis, chopped carrots, spinach, frozen berries and a little cacao powder and stevia.

Then poured off half for breakfast and half into a Klean Kanteen for lunch since I planned to run errands over my lunch break. Much cheaper and faster than Jamba Juice!

But that smoothie wasn’t enough for lunch and I ended up snacking on two oranges and granola for an afternoon snack.

After work, a few co-workers had a going away party at the Cheesecake Factory for someone in our department leaving the IT world to become an international flight attendant. I just had to go to find out more about this decision, it was her childhood dream that she’s finally pursuing. Oh the amount of bad flight attendant jokes we had to endure from the guys in our department! While there, I snacked on edamame with my $5 happy hour cosmo. The pisser is Cheesecake Factory coats their edamame appetizer with butter! Glad I noticed this on a co-workers before ordering mine because the menu did not state that and I had to request mine without it. Who puts butter on edamame?

I had a great time chatting with co-workers, but by 7 PM, the bar was packed. We barely had room to move and there was a group of women aggressively hovering uncomfortably close around our bar tables waiting for us to leave. One even asked us to condense the group to one bar table so they could have the other – 8 people wouldn’t fit around one table! Sheesh. So most of us left having to push through a huge crowd waiting for tables. Don’t get me wrong, I like the Cheesecake Factory, but not enough to wait an hour plus for a table on a packed Friday night! I was happy to navigate my way away from the crowd.

When I got home, I was hungry, but not for a huge dinner, so I created another snack plate of hummus, sweet mini peppers and carrot sticks.

So an odd day of food indeed, but I listened to my body snacking when I was hungry and not over doing it.

Any plans for the weekend?

Sometimes snacking all day is the only way to do it. Actually, when I travel I find myself doing this a lot!

I love nosh days. It’s like you’re giving your body exactly what it’s craving, instead of a prescribed meal. (you veggie / humus picture is gorgeous)

I hope you don’t get any calls this weekend! Low-key weekend here. Odd food days…still good stuff! I’ve never put carrots in a smoothie. I’ll have to try that for sure.

Because carrots are kind of sweet, they blend really well with the fruit and make the smoothie thicker.

Butter on edamame? Doesn’t that defeat the whole purpose of it? LOL.

Totally, it’s supposed to be a healthier snack maybe seasoned with a little salt. Leave it to Cheesecake Factory to make it unhealthy, lol.

Gross about the butter. I had to go to Cheesecake Factory once and all I had was tomato sauce in a bowl as a soup.

For such a huge menu, they don’t have much to vegans which is annoying.

I love snacking on it too and get the frozen bags from Trader Joe’s, but that’s the first time I’ve seen anyone put butter on it and it was gross looking.
