Buzzing Around

January 21, 2011 by christine

Today was a wonderfully productive day that I took off from work to prepare for a raw party at my house tomorrow. A raw instructor is coming over with a bunch of recipes to demonstrate for my sisters, mom, family friends and myself. I can’t wait! But I had a lot to do to prepare for it like sterilizing my house, shopping and preparing ingredients for the recipes. I started the day trying to sleep in, but my cat had other ideas. Then I whipped up a fresh batch of hemp milk to go with a fresh pot of coffee to turbo charge my 3-mile run and cleaning.

I love the froth from freshly blended hemp milk in my coffee, yum!

I also spent time playing with this guy.

While she slept on her favorite couch spot pretty much all day – rough life.

Ate leftovers for lunch.

Soaked almonds, then dehydrated them for 24 hours to create almond flour for one of the recipes – which is a time-consuming process that has to be planned around. Usually I cheat and use almond milk pulp, but I’m going by the rules for the party.

And there was a huge shopping trip to Whole Foods for items like probiotic capsules, coconut butter, palm sugar, exotic mushrooms and lots of produce.

I also got to make date paste for the first time for a dessert recipe.

And discovered it makes a holy mess of my food processor – yikes!

That was a fun clean up job! After all the cleaning and prepping in my kitchen most of the day, hubby and I went out for sushi for dinner because I was not about the mess up the kitchen again. And I’m actually wiped after all the chores and running around today, a hot bubble bath is calling me before lots of fun tomorrow!

Date paste. I know ani’s recipes call for it and i think some of sarma’s do too…but honestly b/c of the sheer mess of cleanup, i have never made it (on purpose)…I have pulverized dates with very few nuts far past the point of recognition and left them sort of “melt” in my vita years ago when i was still learning the vita. Yea, a real ‘fun’ cleanup. Where the paste is stuck underneath the vita blades in that place that is 100% impossible to get to without losing your hand skin!

I cant wait for your raw class/party! Living vicariously is a beautiful thing :)

So true on the Vita, at least it can be filled with water and ran to get most of the mess. Not an option with a food processor. :-P

I’m sure I don’t need to ask but…pictures, pictures! Love a private class in the home! Such a great idea. Can’t wait to read all about it!

That’s an awesome idea—-a raw food demo. Can’t wait to hear about that!

I haven’t made hemp milk yet, but it’s on my list. Seems pretty easy and HAS to be cheaper than buying it!

Hemp milk is the easiest of nut/seed milks to me because there’s no soaking or straining. And it has a nice flavor in coffee. But it does separate a lot without lecithin in it, not a big deal to just shake up.
