Hello and happy Sunday. I am am sitting here drinking coffee and trying to prep myself for an early run and dog walk before it gets too hot because today’s high will be 108. It’s been an interesting week month so far. Typically July is a great month for me even though it’s hot as heck because it’s my birthday month and I try to get into the laid back summer fun mode for the entire month. But this is a big birthday, the dreaded 4-0. I’m trying to take it in stride reminding myself it’s just a number. And worrying about things like biological clocks ticking and aging related career issues don’t apply to me. I like to think 40 means I’ll officially be an adult. It means I’ll stop fearing failure so much and go for it more and become a little more aggressive about following my dreams. And I’ll stop caring what others think of me since I’ve moved passed the self-conscious 20s and 30s. But there are weak times too like when my mom reminds me that 40 used to be a dreaded, end-of-vitality age for women not that long ago … thanks mom, ha! I guess overall I am looking forward to the 40s and focusing on growing up more and bigger goals like running ultras at 70 like Cherie Soria.
We’ve been having lots of luck finding deals at Grocery Outlet lately like this So Delicious Coconut Milk Yogurt Alternative.
It has a thick and creamy texture, very much like traditional yogurt I imagine and great as is or as a dip for fresh fruit. And 150 calories for the large-ish container is not bad at all.
There was also this interesting Kombucha find – I have never heard of Wonder Drink before stumbling onto this.
But this flavor was kicky, spicy, and very thick – like fresh carrot juice with a tangy kombucha spice and very good.
There have been simple and healthy eats too like this cauliflower tofu oil-free stir fry.
And hubby made awesome vegan “fish” tacos using Gardein Fishless Filets and spicy vegan mayo.
I also met my mom for lunch at Pho vegan Asian Cuisine where I’m addicted to this lemon pineapple vegan “chicken” dish.
Hubby and I stepped out to Blaze Pizza Friday to discover they’ve expanded their vegan options from vegan cheese to offering vegan “chicken” now too.
Apparently the vegan “chicken” is very popular and multiple employees told us it was awesome when I was trying to decide on ordering it. And the guy in front of us ordered in as well, very cool.
And last night I made a simple spicy curry dish with potatoes and beans.
Okay, and to the list!
7 way to beat the Sunday blues because I get these from time to time, they’re real.
Rich Roll inspired this vegan ultra runner.
Miley Cyrus has a new vegan tattoo.
Woody Harrelson and Stephen Colbert talk movies and veganism.
Well, at least Canada’s food guide is progressing.
Panera is focusing more on vegan offerings – time to get back there I guess.
Happy birthday! I totally hear you, I’m turning 40 next year and I’m not too upset about it. I’m much more confident than I was and don’t get as stressed about what others think. Age is just a number.
Thanks! Agreed, that’s how I’m trying to feel about 40 too. :-)
Woah, carrot kombucha?! I’ve never heard such a thing! I find pure, chilled carrot juice incredibly refreshing on a hot day, so I’m all about this. I really hope it’s not a total reject, being that you found it at GO, and that it comes out in mainstream grocery stores soon…
I was surprised to find it and it’s was great, I hope that flavor sticks around too!
Happy birthday month! Don’t worry about turning 40, you’re only as old as you feel, and you work so hard at being healthy that I’m going to guess that you feel like 20. Alex and I did 11 miles this morning and I told her that I wish I had the confidence and didn’t care what people thought about me when I was in my 20s. Now that I’m into my 50s, I love who I am and feel better than I did back then. You’re rockin it girl! Keep it up!
Thanks! :-) Agreed on age and I guess I’m still in denial about the number since I don’t feel like it. Wow on 11 miles, hope marathon training is going well. Still on the fence if I’m going to register for the CIM this year – we’ll see!
The 40s are a good decade. There’s truth behind the cliche that life begins at 40. Happy birthday!
Thanks and that sounds great to me! :-)
