Happy Sunday! We’re supposed to get more rain this week and temps have been in the 40s and 30s, what a difference from a couple of weeks ago! I’m not complaining, we need the rain and I get to break out the boots. Anyway, I made it home from our training trip Friday evening after a 3 1/2 hour drive in Friday afternoon traffic from the bay area which could have been a lot worse, so I’m not complaining! I also passed the software certification exam, whew! Hubby snapped this cute pic of the chihuahuas huddled in the same bed waiting for me to come home Friday.
Leela never allows bed sharing unless she needs comforting and she had an emotional melt down when I finally got home. So she’s been getting lots of extra cuddles this weekend.
Smokey has been happy to claim to couch blanket in the cooler temps.
And I still need to head to Trader Joe’s today to restock the kitchen, yesterday’s lunch was interesting to say the least! Kale chips, carrot sticks, bread with the cheddar pub cashew cheese spread from Miyoko’s Kitchen.
And I snacked on Go Raw Choco Crunch cookies.
These are delicious! Sweeter than expected for such a short ingredients list and sprouted sesame seeds add a wonderful rice crispy like crunch. I need to try sprouting them at home for dessert balls!
I also got inventive for dinner using up what we had in the kitchen by sauteing steamed spaghetti squash with marinara sauce, kidney beans, spinach, garlic, and oregano for a one pot meal.
I had a weak moment at Target and grabbed Silk Nog. It’s great in coffee, but the ingredient list is a little iffy. It’s inspired me to create a healthier hemp version of it coming soon!
I just threw frozen banana chunks and it into a blender for a super simple vegan nog soft serve dessert last night.
Yum.
Anyway, to the list!
This Washington Post article is taking a stab at the low carb, gluten free craze proving that whole grains are actually an important part of our diets.
Something I think about a lot, but don’t write about enough is the conditions for workers at slaughterhouses. Dr. Will Tuttle made great points about that in his talk and book about what it does to the mental health and happiness of people doing and witnessing so much cruelty all day and the violent tendencies it can support. Vegansaurus touches on the awfulness for poultry workers here.
I’m looking forward to this documentary about a former pig farmer turned vegan, The Last Pig.
The Humane Society has a new site targeting Costco for supporting caged chickens for their eggs and the apartment video is worth a watch.
LifeHacker has an interesting article about getting “enough” exercise.
And WiseBread has 12 ways to stop skipping workouts.
This is awesome – a veggie burger wins GQ’s best burger title.
Panera Bread is making an effort to offer more vegan options which is great.
Walmart is selling vegan Just Mayo now too and lots of it.

And it’s Sunday Run Day! Then laundry and shopping for the week. Have a great Sunday!

Love those pet photo’s! Mine do the exact same thing. They just love to snug up in the firesplace. We keep “the fireplace” room at around 80. You’d think with fur coats the pets wouldn’t require this amount of heat, but they do! I LOVE that Silk Nog, I have to check that out. And those sprouted cookies are intriguing too!

So true, Miko will toast in front of the fireplace until he’s panting, too funny.
Silk Nog is very good, my fave in coffee and made a great dessert.

Aw, sweet little Leela. I get the meltdown thing, both of my pups do that if I’m gone two minutes-haha! I just bought Silk Nog too. I have a recipe on the blog with it today. I look forward to your version of nog.

Poor Leela went into crying fits when I got home, so cute. And nice on the recipe, can’t wait to check it out!

Ah, it’s nog season, the most wonderful time of year! I saw that Silk is making and almond nog this year and am dying to try it. If I can manage, I’d love to do a nog-off rematch… There are so many new options since I last compared.
christine says
Agreed and looking forward to trying and giving the new holiday non-dairy options a healthy makeover!
