I’m posting What I Ate Wednesday early because tomorrow is Halloween and I’ll probably be eating too much candy. Just kidding. I haven’t even purchased any candy yet for trick-or-treaters, guess what I’ll be doing on the way home from work tomorrow! But I will probably be too busy watching scary movies and handing candy out. :-)
Breakfast: A hemp protein powder smoothie with a banana, kiwi, carrots, and spinach.
I flavored it with a little vanilla extract and a sprinkle of Trader Joe’s stevia powder.
Lunch: Leftover baked kabocha squash and a simple spinach salad with pumpkin seeds.
Followed by a bowl of air-popped popcorn drizzled with lemon olive oil and a dash of sea salt.
Snack: An apple at work.
Dinner: A simple tempeh stir fry with mushrooms and green beans.
Seasoned with a Trader Joe’s seasoning blend, tamari sauce, and nutritional yeast. Followed by a handful of flax crackers since I was still hungry before a 3.5 mile run.
While my eats were pretty tame today, I got to test drive a pretty cool car after work. I’m picky about cars and a fan of environmentally friendly cars, but also a cheapskate who’s been driving the same economy car for over 11 years. When I bought it new, I was really tempted to buy a Toyota Prius. But they where a lot more money for a minimal gas mileage gain at the time. Things have changed and I’ve been eyeballing the Prius again, but iffy on the price tag and if that’s worth it for me. So I’m also considering the Honda Fit EV all electric car and tracked one down to test drive.
At first the idea of an all electric car scared me with a shorter driving range on a charge, what if I get a long commute to work again? But it seems like a good time to consider one with my short commute to work and having other car options available for long trips. And you have to admit, the car is pretty cool looking – very sci-fi. :-) I even like the digital gauges and wish more cars had them.
I was surprised that it’s taller and roomier than the Civic and Insight I also checked out with better visibility, about as tall as the CR-V. But what really surprised me was the power, it has a lot more than my current car, no problem accelerating uphill while merging.
I also loved the peaceful driving experience with minimal road noise and no engine noise. Really strange not hearing a gas engine start with the ignition, just a quiet message on the display saying “Ready to Drive”. So who knows, this could be my next car!

My dad has been eye-balling that car for a while, especially after i got the insight, which I love! I’m glad to hear your liked it!

That’s awesome about your dad, have him fill out the EV readiness survey on Honda’s site if he hasn’t already to get on the list.

can i ask how much the fit costs? were looking at electric cars too but the website doesnt give a price, just a standard (example) lease agreement.

I sent you an email with info on the Fit EV, only 1,100 are being leased in the CA and OR this year, so Honda has a readiness survey on their site to fill out and get on the list.

Just so you know, I’m so jealous of your Kabocha squash!!! I have yet to find one in any supermarket around me… Oh, and digital gauges in cars are the best. We have a Cobalt that has them and they are so much easier to read, especially when driving and you don’t have time to analyze right where the needle hits the number :)

So sad you can’t find kabocha, they’re seasonal around here and usually only plentiful at Whole Foods.Nice, I didn’t know the Cobalt has digital gauges! Wish more cars had them.
