Finding good shoes has always been a challenge for with with large, angular feet. Finding vegan-friendly shoes has added challenge to that! Last night my mom and I headed to the mall on a mission to update my spring/summer work shoes which is not easy considering they have to be closed toed and not insanely hot or heavy for when the triple digit heat starts kicking in next month or so. And they need to look professional, of course, I’m not a fan of wearing athletic-looking shoes to work. We scoured just about every store in the mall seeing plenty of insane options like this.
But not a lot of options for me and the few I like weren’t available in my size. I came home with one lonely pair from Payless – these cute neutral farbic flats that are super light and breathable for $17.
A great find, I can wear them with just about any of my work clothes and I did save money on this shopping trip I guess. But it looks like I’ll be doing a majority of my shoe shopping online from now on in the vegan section of Zappos and Moo Shoes.
All our unsuccessful shopping made us hungry for dinner, so we headed to the food court to try O Tasty, a Mongolian BBQ that lets you assemble a custom bowl of goodies to be stir fried with noodles and sauce.
I assembled a large bowl of tofu and veggies.
And added some hot sauce, garlic, sesame oil, and soy sauce to be stir fried with large noodles.
Somehow the end result did not look as appetizing after it was cooked, but more like a greasy mess of noodles, it was a total splurge meal!
Good thing lunch earlier wasn’t, it was a huge raw salad with carrot miso dressing and a pear.
And I tried to make up for the greasy dinner with a broccoli-loaded Vegan smoothie for a pre-run breakfast this morning.
I put broccoli in smoothies a lot, it’s not noticeable when blended with bananas and a flavored protein powder which makes a great way for me to sneak more raw broccoli into my diet.
When I was younger, I used to buy Payless shoes b/c they were the only place that routinely had my (large) size shoe and didn’t break the bank for shoes I needed for an event. Unfortunately they used to be cut pretty wide and I was swimming in lots of their styles but for the price, I dealt with it. Great score on the flats!
I’m so with you on the vegan shoe shopping frustration! I have specific needs for my job (needs to look professional but also be sturdy) and it seems everything out there is either high-heeled or too casual. Glad you found something that worked.
Oh girl I hate my big feet! It is so hard to find size 11! These look so cute though and Payless is a good place for shoes :)
Awesome, we have the same foot size! :-P So true on finding decent shoes, I swear my feet have changed since I started getting heavy into running!
