After a long day at work, it was nice to get home and relax with these guys.
Not sure Miko was ready to relax, he sat eagerly in my lap determined to not let me catch up on my Words With Friends games. Maybe he’s right, having 15 active games is a bit much.
A challenge for me after a half marathon is getting back to a normal eating habits, especially after a few days of rich eating and drinking in Napa before the race. In the last month of training, my appetite seems to go nuts around long runs and I tend to eat heavier, carby foods. After this race, I was looking forward to getting back to a high-raw diet for a mini detox and it feels great so far! I started yesterday with a large breakfast smoothie and a creative lunch using literally the last fresh ingredients I had in the fridge. I threw a chopped zucchini, small avocado, lemon juice, salt, and some seasonings into the Vitamix to make a lighter guacamole dip for some carrots.
Not bad, the dip hit the spot for being refreshing on a hot day, but I was glad to restock our fresh ingredients on a Costco trip shortly after!
Dinner at my nephew’s birthday party last night was more impressive thanks to my sister making a gorgeous quinoa salad, spinach salad, and fruit salad for me to load my plate with.
And I’ve still been on a salad kick today having leftovers for lunch and assembling this monster salad for dinner with kale, sugar snap peas, avocado, walnuts, and a spicy hummus dressing.
Miko enjoyed sharing the walnuts with me which are great for dogs too.
It feels wonderful to be back into high-raw habits especially in our warmer weather now, I’m just not craving beans soups or steaming stir fries yet. But I am craving a massage still nursing sore legs!
The feeling of getting back to basics, high raw/vegan is always a good one after lots of carbs. Despite my love of sweets, I do truly crave the basics & without them, I feel so out of balance!
Very true, that’s how I felt after all the pasta and heavy eats in Napa.
I remember it was always a feeling of readjustment after training for a race– you get used to needing so many more calories!! You know…pregnancy is kind of the same way! I feel like I’m having to ‘re-learn’ what eating normal is for me!
I bet pregnancy is very similar, but even more so for re-adjusting eating habits and stress. So impressed that you’re doing so well since she arrived and already running again! :-)
