Hello from Fort Bragg! Before taking off this morning, I crammed in a 4.2 mile run that felt wonderful before sitting for the 4-hour drive to get here. The drive was gorgeous, it really didn’t seem that long at all driving by bright sunflower fields, mountains, red wood parks, and Clear Lake.
Where the weather was hot and sunny. But cold, overcast, and breezy in Fort Bragg.
Which is perfect for our getaway after enduring days of bright, dry summer heat! This evenings low is in the 50s here, crazy for August!
The beaches are gorgeous, hubby and I had to take a quick walk snapping pictures before grabbing some dinner.
Then we ventured into town and ended up at Mendo Bistro. What a find! It shares an old, restored building with Living Light and I just loved the upstairs, open balcony atmosphere that was both upper scale and casual.
As a vegan, this was a great choice for me with the customizable dish options using either tofu or a portobello mushroom as the main. Our waitress was also very knowledgeable on which sauces and sides were vegan friendly from the selections.
We started with a unique bruschetta topped with roasted peppers.
Then I went with a tasty sauteed tofu and the Charmoula sauce which I’m not still entirely sure what seasonings were in it, but it was very tasty and spicy. The veggies and tofu were wonderful dipped in it.
The tofu was good, not great. It had nice texture and flavor, but it’s tough to do amazing things with tofu “steaks”, so the center was a little lacking in flavor.
The prices were good and service very good at Mendo Bistro, I would go back in a heartbeat and try the mushroom next. :-)
After such a long day, the hot tub is calling me! What’s the best tofu dish you’ve ever had at a restaurant?

i am impressed that you GOT that meal..when i lived in the carolinas in 2000-05, the words tofu and yoga were like four letter words :)
“t it’s tough to do amazing things with tofu “steaks”, so the center was a little lacking in flavor.”–agreed but hey, it’s better than my memories of times there when fried and floured were 2 food groups!

Actually I’m in Fort Brag, California. :-) It probably would be a little harder to get that meal in NC, but it’s a beautiful area too. I took a road trip there when I lived in Florida.

Actually I’m in Fort Bragg, California. :-) I live in the Sacramento valley of California and love the weekend road trip possibilities in this area. It’s been awhile since I’ve been in NC, but I took a great road trip to the Charlotte area when I lived in Florida, gorgeous area.

Even thought I was at LL for most of the month of May, I never ate at Mendo Bistro. Sounds like I should have! :)

Wow, that’s awesome about LL. I keep debating if that’s something I want and can do. It must have been awesome. We’re planning to stop by the LL cafe and shop tomorrow to check it out more.
