Sun Dried Tomato Hemp Sauce

May 3, 2011 by christine

So no popcorn and cereal for dinner on another lonely night without hubby. But I was craving my other favorite comfort food – creamy hemp sauce. I adore creamy tomato sauces, something about the tang of the tomato mixed with a smooth and rich texture. Years ago I had a creamy tomato Alfredo-like sauce over pasta at an Italian restaurant that was amazing and I tried to recreate. I don’t it if it’s exactly like the sauce, but it came out great and perfect over raw zucchini noodles and broccoli.

Sun Dried Tomato Hemp Sauce

  • 1 cup hemp seeds
  • 1 garlic clove
  • 1/4 cup sundried tomatoes
  • 1/2 tsp. dried thyme
  • 1 tbsp. miso
  • 1/8 tsp. red pepper flakes
  • 2 tbsp.  nutritional yeast
  • 2 roma tomatoes, chopped
  • 2 tbsp. lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup water

Place all ingredients into a high speed blender and blend until smooth and creamy. Makes about 4 servings.

It took some stopping and stirring in the Vita-Mix to get such a thick sauce to a smooth texture.

I coated raw spiralized zucchini and lightly steamed broccoli in the sauce. But the sauce would work for many veggie combos or even as a rich salad dressing or dip.

What I love about creamy hemp sauces is how well they coat raw veggie noodles making them feel and taste more like pasta coated in a sinfully rich sauce.

It’s a great sauce if you’re a fan of Alfredo and tomato sauces.

the sauce looks perfect! right up my alley and a cross between so many nooch-hemp-tomato-red pepper type sauces I already make or want to make….looks delish! Very red alfredo-ish with the creamy factor!

Thanks, hemp seeds are perfect for sauces with more protein than nuts and no soaking required. :-)

Looks like a yummy sauce. I love sundried tomatoes – one of my favorite local restaurants just put a sundried tomato and goat cheese pizza on their menu…*dies*

That does sound good, I might need to try that with macadamia cheese – yum!

I so wish I could get hemp seeds here in Sydney! They are still considered as ‘hippy food’ and people don’t realise their nutritious value. This sounds amazing, I would love to try it!
