How’s your weekend going so far? Mine is off to a relaxing and productive start, I got a bit of laundry done, sterilized the kitchen and all the trays in the Excalibur dehydrator, which is no easy task! Luckily it can dry itself. :-) I also finally got my car cleaned and I’m loving the fresh lemon smell inside. I’m not too picky about keeping a clean car, but I like to keep the inside de-cluttered, I hate loose papers and stuff piled up on the back seats. The trunk … well that’s another story, it’s packed with reusable shopping bags, emergency road kit and a dog carrier pretty much all the time. When taking my dog on her evening walks, I love peering into the cars parked along the street in our neighborhood to see who’s a neat freak and who’s getting bad gas mileage due to the clutter. The other night I saw two absolutely disgusting cars parked in front of the same house, all but the driver’s seat were packed with garbage – mostly fast food garbage. Can you imagine how that’s gonna smell in the triple-digit heat this weekend? Ick!
Anyway, some good eats from the last two days:
Raw broccoli, spinach and carrot ribbons smothered in a creamy hemp-zucchini-rosemary sauce – yum!
Lunch salad topped with cold leftover vegan black bean chili, fresh corn and Annie’s Organic Shiitake dressing.
Salad leftover lunch with tahini-avocado salad, creamy hemp salad and kale chips.
I finally tried Ani’s Ginger Almond Pate from Ani’s Raw Food Kitchen and stepped out to my garden for some wrap options.
The broccoli has huge, beautiful green leaves that I decided to try as a wrap as well as green chard. I’ve never had raw broccoli greens before and it went really well with the pate having a light, savory flavor a lot like collard greens, but with less bite. It also held together nicely making the wrap because the leaves are so thick, no tearing or punching through.
As for the pate – wow! If you have not tried her Ginger Almond Pate, I highly recommend it. I actually think it tasted more like tuna that any other pate I’ve had, but it’s also been a long time since I’ve had canned tuna and may have forgotten what it tastes like. :-P Back in the day, I used to top salads with canned tuna and this pate is an excellent alternative for it with a unique, savory flavor of it’s own. The ginger was not too strong and the garlic level was perfect.
Today we saw Toy Story 3 in 3D and wow, it was simply amazing! I can’t say enough good things about it, so just go see it. :-)
