Ugh, what a busy day! One of those when it rains… One member of our team went home sick just in time for a server to blow up, our anti-virus software decided to just start blocking everything and a few software updates rolled out at once. Well, the day did fly by quick, but left me feeling pretty burnt out by the time I got home and not too creative for dinner.
Here’s an interesting raw article, I’ve read plenty of similar articles, but these quotes grabbed the essence of what has driven me to continue with a high-raw vegan diet:
“For me, it’s meant having more energy, more focus, more freedom in getting to my ideal weight, fewer aches and pains, more zest for life and more freedom to follow my dreams,” she e-mailed. “Live foods have helped me be the ‘me’ I was created to be. I’ll be 63 in a few days and feel more fully alive than ever — in spirit, soul and body.”
“The easiest way to get started on a raw food diet is to add more fruit and veggies,” she said. “The more life-giving food you eat the more you want and the less you crave those things that rob you of optimal health. Start your day with a life-giving juice or smoothie. Take a class and discover new life-giving favorites — it’s not just salads.”
Shifting my diet and why I eat the foods I do has caused big changes in my cravings and eating habits. One of the biggest is having more appreciation for good, simple foods and the art of creating a meal from practically scratch multiple times a day.
Anyway, for breakfast, I got to break out the large container for the Vita-Mix to make a double smoothie batch for hubby and I because he’s trying my smoothies for breakfast. I’m thrilled that he’ll be starting the day well despite what might be consumed during. :-) Today’s smoothie consisted of hemp protein powder, lots of spinach, 3 carrots and frozen berries, which are so overpowering that the carrots and spinach were practically undetectable.
I found another box on my porch when I got home, this time from Amazon.
Ani’s Raw Foo Essentials (finally!) and more hemp protein powder. I am so excited about Ani’s new book, just flipping through I found like 50 recipes I wanted to try. And it’s a huge book full of all the basics. So far it seems if you’re only going to purchase one raw recipe book, this should be it. But I will be having fun trying and reviewing recipes in it.
For dinner I was not feeling too inspired, but more fried. So I went with a monster salad topped with fresh guacamole.
Total raw comfort food, but I really need to go shopping for more of a veggie variety, I need more broccoli, zucchini, cauliflower, apples, peppers and whatever else I feel like impulse buying in the Whole Foods produce department.
