Yeah, it’s overcast and cold today – beautiful sunny weather during the work week, cold and cloudy for the weekend again, not fair! But I keep telling myself this will make for an amazing farmer’s market season, I can’t wait for the many roadside stands selling watermelons that will barely fit into my trunk and super cheap tomatoes and strawberries! Plus this weather should help our newly planted organic garden to get a healthy start. I’m on day 3 of putting maca powder in my breakfast smoothies and no ill affects yet, I do feel a little more chipper in the morning and have not had any problems sleeping.
Yesterday for lunch, I had another monster salad.
Carrot dressing, spinach, two kinds of sprouts, tomatoes and peppers. I ate it with chopsticks to mix things up a bit, I’m weird – but it was fun. I also had some watermelon with it, but it was first-of-the-season and only so-so flavor-wise. Once watermelon season really gets going in this area, you can get some insanely sweet monsters from local farmer’s markets cheap which is great because it’s my of my favorite fruits.
When I got home from work, I embarked on another raw dog food experiment. This time I started with sunflower seeds in the food processor.
Processed them into a fine powder.
Then added carrots and spinach and processed more.
The end result looked appetizing, no?
Actually it didn’t taste bad and the texture was like a whipped, moist nut butter. I mixed it with part of her current dog food, Beneful moist food with veggies and rice chunks in it and she really seemed to like it.
She ate most of the raw chunks and it didn’t seem to have any bad affects on her. I think she liked the seeds processed to a finer texture, she’s never been a fan of dry, crunchy dog foods or treats and this texture was more like the moist dog foods she’s used to.
For dinner, I truthfully was not feeling too creative after a hectic week and my kitchen is getting bare, so I created another salsa-topped taco-themed salad.
After all the rich eating last week and hubby getting home later from work, we did not feel like going out, so we just relaxed at home and used up what we could in the fridge. More room for me to restock at after a Trader Joe’s shopping trip today. :-)
