We’re on our second straight day of rain and miserable, cold, windy rain. The kind of weather that makes it hard to be 100% raw when I seem to crave a hot meal for dinner. But, I’m determined to do it and, again, I’m reminding myself that we need the rain and am not letting it get me down. Plus, if it has to rain like this, better when I’m stuck inside at work. :-)
As if we needed more reasons to exercise regularly, I came across this article giving more reasons.
“Physical inactivity,” they wrote, “is one of the strongest predictors of unsuccessful aging for older adults and is perhaps the root cause of many unnecessary and premature admissions to long-term care.”
Interesting term – “unsuccessful aging”. I exercise 6 days a week, which seems excessive, but I love it – love the way it makes me feel, the energy I have and how much better I sleep. It’s especially therapeutic to sweat away to a newly created playlist after a stressful day spent mostly sitting at my desk. That reminds me – I really need to update my iPod! I also use time to catch up on TV or watch a movie, depending on what mood I’m in. Hmmm, with this neat gadget I could surf blogs or work on that novel too! :-) The new studies on how it affects mental health really fascinate me and something the geek side of me loves to read up on.
Anyway, I am very picky about facial skin care products, after dealing with acne for many of my high school and college years and still getting occasional breakouts here and there. When I find a facial products that work, I’m reluctant to upset the apple cart. But, switching to natural, whole foods has improved the way I feel so much, I’m wondering if natural skin products could have the same effect as I look at where else I can eliminate possibly not safe chemicals in my life … in moderate, bank-account-friendly stages.
My sister gave me a sample of Bee Yummy Skinfood she got with her order that I hesitantly set aside my usual Clean N’ Clear face moisturizer to try this. I’ve been using it for about a week now, the little container is going a long way, and so far I’m happy with it. My face seems to only need a very small dab, less than the Clean N’ Clear stuff, and my skin has not been feeling as oily and has been breakout-free so far.
There’s just one problem with it – 4 oz. for $49! Gah! Granted, many not-so-natural face products in the cosmetics department of Macy’s would easily cost more and this minuscule sample is not even halfway used after a week, so presumably one could get months of use from it. I’m teetering on ordering this or trying more natural face products first. Then again, I could easily spend more than that in the cosmetics department at Whole Foods buying products I’ve never tried. Do you use a natural face product you like?
For dinner I did a compromised version of Ani’s Walnut Cranberry Squash “Rice”, I didn’t have dried cranberries or chopped walnuts, but I had raisins and walnut butter from the other night. So I processed the fresh butternut squash chunks with the spices, raisins and walnut butter to thoroughly mix them into a mash, dumped into a large bowl and mixed in the rest of the ingredients.
It was great! I think I like this version better because the walnut butter taste and raisin sweetness is thoroughly blended and distributed through the squash, changing the texture and really adding to the flavor! I also used chopped sweet onions instead of yellow onions, taking away the bite yellow sometimes have. I think this would be a recipe kids would really like too.
