It’s Friday and I am ready for a 3 day weekend! Especially after such a stressful day! It started out like most, got up early and ready for work in my usual casual Friday jeans.
My favorite long Gap jeans and Born boots. At 6′ tall, finding jeans long enough to wear heals with can be interesting, Gap and Old Navy are currently my fav sources, but I usually have to order the longer lengths online. I bought the boots years ago before going raw and exploring the vegan world, but am interested in replacing more of my leather shoes with vegan over time. Wow, I need to clean my kitchen floor again, a weekly chore now that I’m constantly making a mess in it!
A carrot, green, pear, ginger and hemp protein smoothie to start the day at 7 AM.
Oops, running low on almond milk, better start soaking almonds and dates before leaving for work so I can make more this evening.
Got to the office and instantly had to put our a few fires and tried to make a backup image of a dying hard drive before it finally croaked … no luck.
Oh well, had to completely rebuild the image. New issues kept piling on top of me while I was working at lightening speed to get this user’s computer back up, sometimes I think people specifically way until the end of the week to report problems when they’re urgent and have a deadline to reach!
I had a quick lunch at my desk at 11 AM before running out on errands.
Ani’s Miso Cauliflower Mash topped with my spicy nacho sauce from last night, walnuts and carrot and celery sticks and an apple. It was the perfect food amount, not too filling, but satisfying to fight my way into the mall next for a little Valentine’s shopping. Think these would look good on me?
Just kidding, the triple digit price tag was a bit much for my taste and I can’t think of when I could wear these – I can see myself trying to run cable or move servers in them :-P I like going to the mall on my lunch breaks for specific errands because the time limit helps keep me out of additional spending trouble. But, this was not a great Friday to go, lots of stressed out Valentine’s shoppers – I should have known better. The line for See’s Candy and the Hallmark stores alone were nuts! Like Christmas, Valentine’s is supposed to be a happy time of celebration, but everyone in those lines looked pretty cranky.
I encountered more cranky folks while trying to escape the parking lot, an old man came flying out of a parking isle without stopping, cutting me off, then making a gesture of throwing his hands up in the air at me as I was the one at fault. Yeah, just glad my brakes worked and had to roll that one off. Maybe he didn’t have a Valentine :-(
I finally made it back to the office in time for more urgent, on-fire issues and stressed out users. 3 PM rolled around and my light lunch was not cutting it, so I had to break out a snack.
I have not tried this flavor before, I like Lydia’s Organics bars because they’re so dried, they have a satisfying crunch and expand pretty heavily in my stomach after eating, but they’re larger and lower calorie than a Larabar making a great afternoon work snack.
After work, I had to run to Costco for some needed shopping – paper towels, TP, laundry detergent and lots of produce. I know it’s strange, but I like Costco on a Friday evening because it’s less crowded and more relaxed. Any other time on the weekends it’s packed with families, crowded sample stations (is it really necessary to run me over and block isles for a fresh pizza roll sample?) and plenty of chaos. Though there were still tons of samples and following stampedes to taste processed raviolis, chicken alfredo, spaghetti sauce and many other strange items I wouldn’t touch.
When I got home, I had the house to myself because hubby went to a mini bachelor party. I scavenged my fridge for veggies that needed to be eaten and threw half a head of red cabbage, 5 carrots, 5 celery stalks, a partial bag of mixed greens, cilantro, lemon juice, dill, miso and sunflower seeds into the food processor to make a veggie mash/pate that came out very good, great for lettuce wraps, nori rolls or just salad topping and made a good, quick dinner. Now I’m going to crash in front of a movie and maybe a hot bath later to work on finishing New Moon – yeah, I know the movie has been out for awhile, but I have a huge “to read” book pile I’m working through.
I was listening to a Michael Franti song on the way into the work this morning with a great line, “Wise people count their blessings, fools count their problems.” Something I had to remind myself of a few times throughout the day. I have a great little iPhone app just for days like today called Gratitude Rock where you listen to calming ocean waves while listing everything you’re grateful for. It’s helpful to slow down and re-focus with on stressful days, a great way to snap out of a bad-mood rut.
