I’m a bit sad that Halloween is over already, but like gaining an hour and am looking forward to Thanksgiving and Christmas. We actually did not do anything too exciting last night, just handed out candy, cooked at home and watched horror movies starting with one of my favorites, House on Haunted Hill. Thought about going to a party, choose to relax at home to nurse sinus pain. Ugh, I have so much leftover Halloween candy that I’ll be dumping on my co-workers tomorrow! I only got three groups of tick-or-treaters this year, much less than last year and I bought a ton of candy to be overly prepared. But, I still have not eaten a piece … I just ate plenty else while experimenting in the kitchen. I tried making kale chips in my dehydrator for the first time and I’d call them a success! I simply tossed bite-sized leaves in a bowl with a little olive oil and pink salt and dried them at 115 degrees for 4 hours. They’re very tasty with a salty, crisp flavor and chip-like texture.
I also dehydrated the monster pumpkin seeds from our 55 lb. pumpkin and strangely they took about half the time to dehydrate than the little seeds from the pie-pumpkin last weekend.
I hit the pumpkin jackpot at Raley’s today, they marked all their medium pumpkins down to $0.99 for an after Halloween sale, including beautiful and tasty Cinderella pumpkins. So I added to my already huge squash collection.
Looking forward to inventing more raw soups with those in the near future.
