Whew, finally Friday and Thanksgiving is less than a week away! Where is November going? CalorieLab has some advice on eating healthy over the holidays. Nothing too new, but something I’m reminding myself of while arming for holiday travel. I’ve been thinking a lot about how to maintain my healthy diet while traveling across country for Thanksgiving, here is a decent check list to prepare for it. Another article for maintaining a healthy diet. I love the recommendation to get a personal, travel blender – I can just see the looks on my in-laws face if I set that up in their kitchen! Think I’ll stick to eating whole fresh fruits and veggies for the week, the last thing I want to be is a high-maintenance guest. But I also want to eat well especially if I won’t be able to exercise regularly during the trip. I will be packing Larabars and other raw snack bars, fruit and nuts for the road.
I tried another one of Lydia’s Oragnics products today, the Tropical Mango Bar, a very simple, raw snack containing organic dried bananas, coconut, mango and pineapple. It’s a lighter snack with just 110 calories, 7 grams of fat, 3 grams of fiber and 1 gram of protein.
Good time to try it as I look for travel friendly food. Like the last bar I tried, this could be eaten crunchy or rehydrate, I went with crunchy and was it ever. It was too dry and almost painful on my sensitive teeth to take bites out of. The flavor was nice, more coconut than mango, but sweet and tasty. It was a bit crumbly to eat, leaving crumbs all over my desk and probably a bit tough to eat on the road without plenty of water. It took a satisfying amount of time to eat though, the bar is large and requires a bit of chew time which is a good thing for me as I tend to be a fast eater. Still, I don’t think I’ll pack this flavor for the road.
